A series of 16 triprenyl- and tetraprenyldrromanes, sargachromanols A-P, have been isolated from the species Sargassum siliquastrum harvested in Korea (Jaq u Island). Most of these present interesting antioxidant properties, and the two examples shown below are also inhibitors of butylcholine esterase (Jang et al, 2005). Similar compounds were isolated from Sargassum thunbergii, also from Korea (Seo et al, 2006). [Pg.448]

Nahocols and isonahocols are linear meroditerpenes in which the tetraprenyl chain is bound to methyl-2,4-dihydrox-yphenylacetate by an ether fimction for nahocols, and directly to the aromatic nucleus for isonahocols. In addition, the chain is transposed in the six nahocols and regular in the two isonahocols, all isolated from Sargassum autumnale harvested in Omosu Bay, Japan (Tsuchiya et al, 1998). Nahocols A, Al, D1 and D2 were rediscovered 10 years later in the Korean brown alga, Sargassum siliquastrum (Jung et al., 2008). [Pg.460]
