Sanding sealer

It is also common to distress the surface for resemblance to antique furniture. For example, spots of black pigment stain can simulate India ink spots dropped from quiH pens, and dark stains carefully appHed into corners simulate dirt accumulated over many years. When this "art work" is completed, a sanding sealer is appHed to immobilize the lower layers of the finish and to provide a surface that can be sanded smooth. Finally a top coat is appHed and poHshed smooth. 

A sanding sealer is designed for easy sanding after short dry so that smoother top coats can be attained. Sanding sealers are most important in furniture finishes and industrial finishes such as automotive systems. 

Use Varnishes, enamels, can liners, nitrocellulose sanding sealers, printing inks, tackifying and vulcanization of butyl rubber.

Sanding sealer n. Specially hard first coat that has the property of sealing or filling, but not obscuring, the grain of wood. The surface is then suitable for sanding before the application of subsequent coats. 

As mentioned above, the technique of minimizing the variability of isocyanate-polyol systems by using an excess of the isocyanate has limitations. An alternative approach is to employ isocyanate-terminated pre-polymers (of the type described in section 16.7.1(b)) to cross-link the polyol. Since these prepolymers are themselves film-forming materials, the use of a stoichiometric excess in a two-component system is not detrimental to the final film. This technique is applicable to the production of both flexible and hard coatings the former are suitable finishes for leather and rubber whilst the latter find use as sanding sealers.
