Sand, drying

Aerobically digested sludge usually has good dewatering characteristics. When applied to sand drying beds, it drains well and redries quickly if rained upon. [Pg.504]

The SGS locates, analyzes, and removes gamma-ray-emitting radionnclides from soil, sand, dry sludge, or any host matrix that can be transported by conveyor belts. [Pg.1057]

Pyrophoric. Extinguish with dry sand, dry chemical, or carbon dioxide. Do not use water ... [Pg.228]

If sand is moist, the slope of a sand pile can be higher. A sand castle can have vertical walls when it is built of moist sand in the morning, but as the afternoon wears on and the sand dries out, it cmmbles and collapses (mass wastes) until a stable slope forms. This is because the water makes the sand more cohesive. With the proper moisture content, there will be both water and air between most of the grains of sand. The boundary between the water and the air has surface tension— the same surface tension that supports water striders or pulls liquids up a capillary tube. In moist sand, surface tension holds the grains together like a weak cement. [Pg.253]

Jingbian is located in the central part of the Ordos Basin, where the oil and gas potential has long been considered to be poor because favourable structures are not evident in the seismic data. In 1988, however, the Changqing Oil Company proposed a scientific research well. This was preceded by a surface gas geochemical survey along several traverses, one of which passed through the site of the proposed well. The surface material, which is mainly aeolian sand, dry river-bank sediments and loess, was sampled at depths of 2-3 m at intervals of one km along traverse lines. At each sample site, Hg in... [Pg.225]

Cannot be extinguished with water or CO2. The oxygen in both of these materials feeds the reaction and the fire becomes more intense. Suppression of the blaze can be accomplished only with large quantities of dry sand, dry NaQ, or dry soda ash. Magnesium is easily obtainable, but may be extracted from certain photographic flash-bulbs to avoid detection. [Pg.298]

CTF = Converted trickling filter. SSB = Standard sand drying bed. Grab samples. [Pg.432]

Dry sand, dry chemical, soda ash, or lime or withdraw from area and let fire bum. CAUTION Dithionite (Hydrosulfite/Hydrosul-phite) fires may require flooding with water in order to eliminate hazardous reaction since the materials generate their own oxygen. [Pg.418]

Dry sand, dry chemical, soda ash, or lime or withdraw from area and let fire burn. [Pg.428]

YTTRIUM (7440-65-5) Y Flammable in the form of dust in air pyrophoric. Reacts with water, steam, releasing flammable hydrogen gas. Reacts with oxidizers, halogens strong acids strong bases peroxides. On small fires, use only approved Class D extinguishers (e.g., Met-L-X or Lith-X ), or smother with special G-1" powders, dry powdered talc, dry sand, dry clay, dry crushed limestone, dry graphite. [Pg.1089]
