Safety, road driving practices

In early simulators, particularly driving simulators, actual situations were filmed and used in the simulator. Mistakes made by the learning, however, were not distributed realistically over time neither were their effects displayed optically, nor were the consequences of these mistakes realistically demonstrated. Thus the use of such films in safety training is practically excluded. Whenever a pupil in a simulator driving on a winding road steers the car into a ditch, all the film can do is stop. This takes the critical element out of the reality-oriented simulation. 

Advanced techniques and practices (e.g., awareness, observation, spacing, etc.), used by drivers to protect themselves from the errors of other drivers, unsafe road conditions, and adverse weather conditions that increase driving hazards. The National Safety Council (NSC) launched the first Defensive Driving Course, adapted from techniques used by professional drivers in 1964. Since then, the NSC has trained more than 60 million drivers and today offers more than 25 different defensive driving and fleet safety courses. The NSC offers more courses with the highest success rate in reducing the number and severity of collisions and their related costs than any other driver training provider. 

ABSTRACT This paper s goal is to assist in road tunnel safety, providing a set of educational scenarios that incorporate the best practices regarding the use of unidirectional road tunnels. The scenarios point out the basic guidelines of driving behaviour that a tunnel user should maintain and the proper responses of the user in case of an incident. Ten UML diagrams were constructed, in order to depict the basic interactions of the tunnel user within the environment of a road tunnel.
