However, a factor that should be taken into account is the time of observation. In some countries, road safety management components may be so recent that they have not yet had the time to deploy their full potential or they may have been aroimd for such a long time that their impact has already gradually faded away. 

Health and Safety. The dermal toxicology of alkaline solutions of thioglycolic acid has been reviewed extensively (63—65). The reagent has been found harmless to normal skin when used under conditions adopted for cold waving. Some irritation is observed on abraded skin but this appears to be associated with the alkaline component of the waving solution (65). Hand protection is recommended for the professional hairdressers who routinely handle these products. 

The electronic circuit of the safety sensor consists of a p-type silicon electrode, an LED, a resistor, two 3 V lithium batteries, and a platinum wire as a counter electrode, connected in series, as shown in the right part of Fig. 10.7. These components are assembled in a pen-like housing, optimized to measure even thin layers of liquid on a flat surface, as shown in the left part of Fig. 10.7. This configuration is advantageous if a puddle, observed for example under a wet bench or other equipment, is to be analyzed.
