Acid Dips and Acid Pickles. Acids are used to remove inorganic soils. A distinction is made between acid dips and acid pickels. Where there is no mst or scales, a dilute acid dip is used for activation and as a rinse aid. Caustic residues from cleaners are notoriously difficult to remove with water rinsing alone. By contrast, strong acid pickles are used to remove mst and scale. [Pg.150]

The term poloxamer is widely used to describe a series of ABA block coploymers of polyethylene oxide and polypropylene oxide, extensively used in industry as antifoams, emulsifiers, wetting agents, rinse aids, and in numerous other applications [1-5]. In the case of a temperature-sensitive product the rinse aid is embedded into a substance e.g. a wax with a melting point higher than the temperature of the main wash cycle (e.g. 50°Cor55°C) but lower than the temperature of the rinse cycle that is most likely above 65 °C. Thus, the encapsulation with a melting point between 60 °C and 65 °C resists the conditions in the main wash cycle but melts in the rinse cycle and releases the rinse aid. Another product has basically a built-in pH sensor. In this case the rinse aid is encapsulated into a material that is solid and insoluble in water at an alkaline pH-value. Thus it is able to withstand the conditions in the alkaline main wash cycle. When the pH-value decreases, due to the dilution of the washing liquor with pure water in the rinse cycles, the sensor encapsulation material becomes soluble and releases its contents [93, 94]. [Pg.111]

Because the sarcosinates have the ability to raise the cloud point of nonionic surfactants, this feature can be used to advantage in the formulation of dishwasher rinse aids. At the cloud point and up to 15C above it, foam generation is reduced and detergency is enhanced. Dishwash tablets have undergone a transformation in the past few years, going from a simple powder or liquid gel, to two-in-one tablets, to three-in-one tablets, to four-in-one tablets, and recently to five-in-one tablets, which were launched in 2005. This latest version comes with three sections sealed inside water soluble compartments made of the - polymer poly (vinyl alcohol). The various ingredients in a dishwash product have to be kept separate to prevent them from reacting chemically with one another. Some of the ingredients can coexist without reacting, such as the surfactants and the enzymes, as they do in laundry detergent powders, and some are most useful if they are released near the end of the wash, such as rinse aids. [Pg.169]
