Right screw

There are two kinds of direction in cotton yam twisting - the S-twist and the Z-twist. In S-twist, the fiber bundle is twisted in the direction of the right screw, whereas in the Z-twist, it is twisted in the direction of the left screw. The method developed in the impregnation system uses the difference between the S-twist and the Z-twist. The steps of the resin impregnation method into cotton yam are shown in Figure 5.8. The case where jute fiber is used as the NF is especially illustrated here. This is because the productivity of jute fiber is high and it is inexpensive. Moreover, it is imported in stable condition and its mechanical properties are also excellent... [Pg.186]

In Chapters 2 and 3 we presented the fundamental principles of thermodynamics. In this chapter we use these principles to construct thermodynamic tools with which to analyze real systems. Learning to use these tools allows you to apply thermodynamics in a useful way. Someone has facetiously said that the practice of thermodynamics is like finding the right wrench with which to pound on the right screw. [Pg.152]

Vectors whose directions are aligned with the rotation direction are called axial vectors. Angular displacement dtp is an axial vector, the modulus of which is equal to the ratio of arc dS and radius R and the direction of which coincides with the rotation axis in accordance with the right screw rule. [Pg.13]

No-slip boundary conditions on the screw surfaces and barrel walls were used. lu order to calculate the natural flow produced by the rotation of the screw, in our simulations, the barrel is fixed, and the screws rotate in different direction. The left screw is clockwise, and the right screw is counter-clockwise. The screw rotate in the barrel at the rotational speed of 30 r/min. We impose the... [Pg.1314]

Figure Al.4.4. The definition of the Euler angles (0, ( ), x) that relate the orientation of the molecule fixed (x, y, z) axes to the (X, Y, Z) axes. The origin of both axis systems is at the nuclear centre of mass O, and the node line ON is directed so that a right handed screw is driven along ON in its positive direction by twisting it from Z to z through 9 where 0 < 9 < n. ( ) and x have the ranges 0 to In. x is measured from the node line. Figure Al.4.4. Typical examples of hierarchical database systems arc the file system of personal computers or the organization of parts (e.g., a construction plan). In the case of car parts, the objects (e.g. B = rear suspension, E = right wheel, J = rim, K = screw) are... [Pg.232]

The thermostatic mortar P, whose function is described below, is a small electrical heating unit (1 5 cm. in diameter and 7 cm. long) kept constant at 180 . The temperature is kept constant by another Simmerstat. The mortal may be supported on its Simmerstat box or alternatively screwed on to the end of the furnace, a gap of 1 cm. being left between the furnace and the mortar in each case. The right-hand end of the mortar bore is only wide enough to take the drawn-out beak end of the combustion tube, which is thus held in place. [Pg.470]

The enantiomers shown are related as a right hand and left hand screw respectively Chiral allenes are examples of a small group of molecules that are chiral but don t have a chirality center What they do have is a chirality axis, which m the case of 2 3 pen tadiene is a line passing through the three carbons of the allene unit (carbons 2 3 and 4)... [Pg.403]

We saw in Section 1.3.2 and in Figure 1.5 how the orbital angular momentum of an electron can be represented by a vector, the direction of which is determined by the right-hand screw mle. [Pg.201]

Dislocations are characterized by the Burgers vector, which is the exua distance covered in traversing a closed loop around die core of the dislocation, compared with the conesponding distance traversed in a normal lattice, and is equal to about one lattice spacing. This circuit is made at right angles to the dislocation core of an edge dislocation, but parallel to the core of a screw dislocation. [Pg.34]

An a helix can in theory be either right-handed or left-handed depending on the screw direction of the chain. A left-handed a helix is not, however, allowed for L-amino acids due to the close approach of the side chains and the CO group. Thus the a helix that is observed in proteins is almost always right-handed. Short regions of left-handed a helices (3-5 residues) occur only occasionally. [Pg.16]

Since the first bracket on the right-hand side is a constant and the second is an integer, it is evident that, for any particular /, some leeway must exist in the value of the ratio rj/G for the equality to be satisfied. Here too, the presence of screw helicity must affect either / , or G, or both. In view of the fairly small variations of G allowed if the hybridization of the C atoms is to remain sp, and since the deformation of the C orbitals decreases as the radius of the cylindrical sheets increases, the distance between successive cylinders must decrease and probably tend towards a value characteristic of turbostratic graphite. [Pg.62]

The enantiomers shown are related as a right-hand and left-hand screw, respectively. [Pg.403]

Chirality axis (Section 10.8) Line drawn through a molecule that is analogous to the long axis of a right-handed or left-handed screw or helix. [Pg.1278]

And diis meant that die chain could turn corners only at die alpha carbons.. .. I creased die paper in parallel creases dirough the alpha carbon atoms,. so that I could bend it and make die bonds to the alpha carbons, along die chain, have tetrahedral value. And then I looked to see if I could form hydrogen bonds from one part of the chain to the next. He. saw diat if he folded die. strip like a chain of paper dolls into a helix, and if he got die pitch of the screw right, hydrogen bonds could be shown to form,... [Pg.167]

The optical isomer of [Co(en)3] referred to in the main text is the (+)NaD isomer, which has a left-handed (laevo) screw axis as shown in Fig. Ba. and according to the convention recommended by ILIPAC is ven tbe symbol A. This is in contrast to its mirror image (Fig. Bb) which has a right-handed (dextro) screw axis and is g ven the symbol A. [Pg.1126]
