Tablet-associated esophagitis has been reported in a 70-year-old white man on the fourth day of antibiotic therapy with vancomycin, gentamicin, and oral rifampicin for Staphylococcus epidermidis prosthetic valve endocarditis (50). [Pg.3043]

The authors noted that age, bedridden state, gastroesophageal reflux disease, simultaneous administration of several medications, and nasopharyngeal obstruction may have increased the risk of esophagitis. They found a second case of tablet-associated esophagitis caused by rifampicin in their review of the published literature. [Pg.3043]

There have been no reports on the risk of Pneumocystis jiroveci pneumonia in patients taking rifampicin plus co-trimoxazole prophylaxis. Until such time as more data are available, it is prudent to use double-strength co-trimoxazole tablets twice daily for prophylaxis of toxoplasmosis and P. jiroveci pneumonia in patients taking concomitant rifampicin. [Pg.3046]

In 10 HIV-positive patients who had been taking one double-strength tablet of co-trimoxazole daily for more than 1 month, the concentrations of trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole in serum were significantly reduced after the administration of rifampicin (199). [Pg.3518]

A study in 6 healthy subjects found that after taking rifampicin 450 mg daily for 6 days, the maximum serum level of diclofenac, measured 8 hours after a single 100-mg dose of an enteric-coated tablet, was reduced by 43% and the AUC was reduced by 67% ... [Pg.156]
