Figure 4. Ten bouts of high intensity cycle exercise, each with a duration of 6 sec and with 30 sec rest periods between bouts were performed on a given day. The entire exercise protocol was performed on four separate days by each subject (n = 8), before and after placebo and creatine supplementation. Mean power output was 882 watts. Upper panels (A1 and B1) demonstrate mean revolutions per min during the 0-4 sec period of each bout and the lower panel (A2 and B2) during 4-6 sec of each bout. The left panels (A1 and A2) show results before (o) and after (x) placebo and the right panels (B1 and B2) before (o) and after (x) creatine supplementation. The study was performed in a double blind manner. Figure 4. Chemistry really should be at the heart of this revolution in materials. Chemistry is the discipline that has been associated with the study of matter that is the science of chemistry. Moreover, chemistry is also the discipline associated with the purposeful manipulation of matter at the atomic and molecular level. But, in terms of materials chemistry, the time is right because of the ability to do analysis at an unprecedented level of resolution. However, our academic system has not yet responded for our students because our laboratory and lecture subjects have not yet included the dramatic advances in analytical capability. This is an important charge to the academic community. [Pg.51]

Fig. 10. Results of LES-based simulations of an agglomeration process in two vessels one agitated by a Rushton turbine (left) and one agitated by a Pitched Blade Turbine (right). The two plots show the agglomeration rate constant fl0 normalized by the maximum value, in a vertical cross-sectional plane midway between two baffles and through the center of the vessel. Each of the two plots consists of two parts the right-hand parts present instantaneous snapshots the left-hand parts present spatial distributions of time-averaged values after 50 impeller revolutions. Reproduced with permission from Hollander et al. (2003). Fig. 10. American reformers seem to have no idea, at any time or in any connection, that the only remedy for wrong is right that moral education, self-control, good manners, will save the world and that legislation is not merely a broken reed, but a suffocating vapor. Further, an excess of legislation defeats its own ends. It makes the whole population criminals, and turns them all into policemen and spies. The moral health of such a people is ruined for ever only revolution can save it. [Pg.23]

Neither Party shall be liable to the other Party or shall be in default of its obligations hereunder if such default is the result of war, hostilities, revolution, civil commotion, strike, epidemic, accident, fire, wind, flood or because of any act of God or other cause beyond the reasonable control of the Party affected. The Party affected by such circumstances shall promptly notify the other Party in writing when such circumstances cause a delay or failure in performance ( a Delay ) and where they cease to do so. In the event of a Delay lasting for [... insert number...] weeks or more the non-affected Party shall have the right to terminate this Agreement immediately by notice in writing to the other Party. [Pg.799]

Some economists, such as 1993 Nobel laureate Douglass North, argue that the invention of intellectual property and its protection caused an explosion in creativity that was the basic force behind the Industrial Revolution (Hall and Jones 1999). As Charles Jones observed, sustained economic growth is a very recent phenomenon - it began with the Industrial Revolution in Britain in the 1760s - and the thesis of Douglass North and a number of other economic historians is that the development of intellectual property rights, a cumulative process that occurred over centuries, is responsible... [Pg.142]

Several provisions in the Bill of Rights that arose from that revolution noted the abuses of Charles II and James II and showed the importance attached to the right to bear arms ... [Pg.12]

Following the end of the French and Indian War, disputes over the taxation and treatment of the colonists as well as their political rights eventually boiled over into revolution. In 1777, British colonial undersecretary William Knox proposed that to forestall rebellion. [Pg.13]

In the bloodless Glorious Revolution, William and Mary defeat English King James II, abolish the standing army, and restore— to Protestants only—the right to keep and bear arms. [Pg.97]

The equivalent symmetry element in the Schoenflies notation is the improper axis of symmetry, S which is a combination of rotation and reflection. The symmetry element consists of a rotation by n of a revolution about the axis, followed by reflection through a plane at right angles to the axis. Figure 1.14 thus presents an S4 axis, where the Fi rotates to the dotted position and then reflects to F2. The equivalent inversion axes and improper symmetry axes for the two systems are shown in Table 1.1. [Pg.17]

The 1960s (or more accurately, the period from about 1963 to the early 1970s) was marked by profound social, political, and culmral upheaval. In addition to social and political reforms (such as the Civil Rights movement), racial unrest and the war in Vietnam, the decade was also marked by a cultural revolution. As the admittedly simplistic phrase would have it, the 1960s was the era of sex, drugs, and rock n roll. ... [Pg.20]
