Revival total

Recent improvements in the total synthesis of steroids which give as the first tetracyclic products 19-norsteroids bearing a hydroxyl or keto group at C-17 have revived interest in the conversion of androstanes to pregnanes. [Pg.129]

Oxford, 1997), 226-7 Brian Copenhaver, Scholastic Philosophy and Renaissance Magic in the De vita of Marsilio Ficino , Renaissance Quarterly, yj (1984), 523-54 Linda Deer Richardson, The Generation of Disease Occult Causes and Diseases of the Total Substance , in Andrew Wear, Roger K. French, and I. M. Lonie (eds.), The Medical Renaissance of the Sixteenth Century (Cambridge, 1985), 175-94, esp. 184,188-93. The revival of the Hippocratic tradition is another component of this story. [Pg.7]

The Langmiur isotherm—used by Guiochon and others in the study of preparative scale chromatography—is based on the concept that adsorption nonlinearity occurs when there are so many molecules that they compete with one another for a limited number of adsorption sites. It is obvious that when two concentrated solutes are present at the same time, they will interfere with one another s adsorption. The one that adsorbs most strongly will almost totally displace the weaker adsorber. This is the basis of displacement chromatography, a nonlinear form developed by Tiselius in 1943 (17) and revived recently by Horvath [18]. [Pg.229]

Finally, an understanding, not intellectual, but in some sort total, an understanding with the entire organism, of the affirmation that God is Love. The experiences are transient, of course but the memory of them, and the inchoate revivals of them which tend to recur spontaneously or during meditation, continue to exercise a profound effect upon one s mind There is a feeling—I... [Pg.108]

The first step in the dynamics, the S Sj deactivation, is completed in only 52 1 fs, presenting the expected monoexponential decay profile, as can be seen in Figure 8-1 la. This figure shows the fraction of trajectories in each state between 0 and 200 fs for the 35 trajectories computed. Between 20 and 30 fs and again at 37 fs it is possible to observe a revival of the S2 state occupation. The fraction of trajectories in Sj is not shown in the figure for sake of clarity. It is just complementary to the fraction of trajectories in S2. Thus, a revival in S2 is companied by a decrease in Sj occupation. The revivals in the S2 occupation occur when the total number of... [Pg.227]

The proliferation of powerful and diversified procedures for protein fractionation, generally based on relatively small differences in the physicochemical properties of the proteins in the mixture, has almost totally outdated the older procedures, particularly organic solvent fractionation based on the accentuation or induction of such differences. The reasons for such neglect are well known and have been emphasized by S. Kaufman (1971), who tried several years ago to revive organic solvent fractionation, which is frequently no more laborious or incomplete and of no lower yield than many other techniques claimed to be particularly suitable. [Pg.77]

Last not least, the classical way of improving convergency by including the interelectronic coordinates explicitly in the variational trial functions has recently been revived by Boys 96) in its new form, this technique called method of transcorrelated functions is able to reproduce the total energy of lithium hydride with chemical accuracy (97). [Pg.38]

If not held in some laboratories until now, it would apparently be, then, a non-revivable creature. But in actuality, things are different. The story begins in that there are no clear data as to the overall local attempts to isolate—and, hence, preserve—the virus during the occurrences of natural smallpox epidemics over many countries worldwide throughout the twentieth century, until the last 1972 epidemic. Still, even if assuming the total and complete destruction of this virus worldwide, it is apt to be recreated, based on the knowledge attained on its full genome. [Pg.1601]

The emergence of differential IMS has already revived interest in the older work on high-field ion mobility fundamentals. The ongoing rapid development of this technology and its analytical applications will sure prompt further efforts that would improve the understanding of high-field phenomena described above and perhaps lead to discovery of their unforeseen combinations and even totally new effects. With that, we move to discuss the implementation and use of differential IMS and specifically FAIMS in the rest of this book. [Pg.117]

Paleontology of the past is revived in molecular systematics of the present, in its search for ancestors and centers of origin. The revival ignores, or retreats from, the cladistic reform of paleontology of the 1970s, with historical roots in the work of Louis Dollo (1857-1931) and fossil Inngfishes. The subsequent development of cladistics has been arrested, too, by compnter implementations of character optimization and the ideology of total evidence, which reflects a phenetic rather than cladistic objective the overall similarity of synapomorphy. [Pg.127]

Corey et al. recently revived this useful transformation in the syntheses of several tryptophan-derived natural products [134]. For eiample, an unusual paUadium(II)-catalyzed ring closure under an atmosphere of dioxygen followed by ring enlargement (cf Scheme 7.54) is the key step in the total synthesis of okaramrne N (217) (215 216 Scheme 7.52). This transformation is particularly remarkable because C—H bond activation is chemoselective the unprotected indole unit reacted whereas the N-protected indole remained untouched during the catalysis. [Pg.261]
