Abstract This article reviews results from our group of the synthesis and characterization of diblock copolymer brushes. Results from the literature are also covered. We report a wide variety of diblock compositions and compare the miscibility of the two blocks with the tendency to rearrange in response to block-selective solvents. Also, we describe the types of polymerization methods that can be utilized to prepare diblock copolymer brushes. We have compared the molecular weight of free polymer and the polymer brush based on results from our laboratory and other research groups we have concluded that the molecular weight of the free polymer and that of degrafted polymer brushes is similar. [Pg.125]

In this paper, a number of reflections and conclusions are formulated which result from research work on functionally graded materials as performed by a small group at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology at Lausanne, mainly in the period 1988 to 1995. Consequently, researchers have continued to seek new ways to faciUtate the separation and confine the corrosion. Extensive research was done with rhodium phosphine complexes bonded to soHd supports, but the resulting catalysts were not sufficiently stable, as rhodium was leached iato the product solution (27,28). A mote successful solution to the engineering problem resulted from the apphcation of a two-phase Hquid-Hquid process (29). Beckman, Brennecke, and their research groups were the first to realize that the combination of SCCO2 and an ionic liquid can offer special advantages. They observed that, although SCCO2 is surprisingly soluble in some ionic liquids, the reverse is not the case, with no detectable ionic liquid solubilization in the CO2 phase.
