Respiratory system allergies

Formaldehyde (also a VOC) ETS building materials and fabrics cleaning fluids and adhesives. irritation to eye. nose and respiratory system allergy, carcinogenic. [Pg.368]

Table 7. Symptoms most often reported by pesticide users in a sun/ey by the EFA. (Other symptoms occurred in 10% of cases notable symptoms linked with the nervous system such as fatigue, difficulty in concentration, difficulty in muscle control and coordination of movement, trembling and the respiratory system (allergies, different respiratory problems). As there are often multiple symptoms, the overall total of percentages exceeds 100%.). Table 7. Symptoms most often reported by pesticide users in a sun/ey by the EFA. Thus the total soil pollution was connected with a respiratory system and a digestive tract. Both systems were also sensitive to such urban pollutants as heavy metals and PAH. For radionuclides the correlation with the given nosologies was not revealed. The asthma morbidity was mostly connected with soil pollution rates. This circumstance, apparently, can be related to nonspecific action of pollutants on a human organism, because the etiology of asthma is connected with the human immune defense system and allergy state (Roite, 1991). The last was shown for pesticides (Nikolaev et al., 1988) and heavy metals (Drouet et al., 1990). The sensitized immune system is, apparently, responsible for chronic toxic effects of other pollutants at low doses (Sidorenko et al., 1991 Novak and Magnussen, 1993). [Pg.116]

The antibody, a homocy to tropic antibody, circulates in the bloodstream, but has a high affinity for the surface of mast cells and binds to receptors on the surface (Fig. 6.31). This type of reaction, which occurs quickly after reexposure, underlies reactions in the respiratory system (asthma, rhinitis), skin (urticaria), gastrointestinal tract (food allergies), and vascular system (anaphylactic shock). Type I reactions can be severe, causing difficulty in breathing, loss of blood pressure, anoxia, edema in the respiratory tract, and bronchospasm, which may prove fatal. [Pg.252]

It has been demonstrated that catalytic converters are responsible for releasing considerable amounts of Pt ant Pd to the urban environment (Cicchella et al, 2003, 2008a Schafer and Puchelt, 1998 Zereini et al, 1994), which has caused an increase in the incidence of allergies and problems related to the respiratory system (Rosner and Merget, 2000 Von Hoff et al, 1976). [Pg.154]

Carbinoxamine compound syrup (Pennex) containing 60 mg pseudoephedrine HCl, 4 mg carbinoxamine maleate, and 15 mg dextromethorphan HBr in 0.2% alcohol is indicated for relief of cough and upper respiratory systems including nasal congestion associated usually with allergy or common cold. Carbinoxamine possesses Hj antihistaminic activity with mild anticholinergic-sedative properties. Carbinoxamine, which is metabolized completely, has a serum half-life of 10 to 12 hours. [Pg.133]

HEALTH SYMPTOMS inhalation (coughing, shortness of breath, build-up of fluid in lungs, wheezing, chest tightness, irritates eyes, skin and respiratory system) skin absorption (respiratory system sensitization, skin sensitization, narcotic effects) contact (destroys tissues of mucous membranes, chemical bums to the skin and eyes, scarring, skin allergies). [Pg.487]

HEALTH SYMPTOMS inhalation (aspiration pneumonia, cough, breathing difficulty, irritates eyes, skin, and respiratory system) skin contact (acne-like rash, skin allergy, itching). [Pg.802]

In the United States, about 6 million people have a skin allergy to fragrance and this has a major impact on their quality of life. Symptoms include headaches, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, shortness of breath, and difficulty in concentrating. Fragrance materials are readily absorbed into the body via the respiratory system and once absorbed they cause systemic effects. [Pg.566]

Some niekel eompounds may be irritant to skin and eyes and dermal eontaet with niekel ean result in allergie eontaet dermatitis. Niekel earbonyl is extremely toxie by inhalation and should be handled in totally enelosed systems or with extremely effieient ventilation. Air monitors linked to alarms may be required to deteet leaks. Respiratory equipment must be available for dealing with leaks. Biologieal eheeks (e.g. niekel in urine) should be eonsidered for routine operations involving niekel eatalysts. [Pg.122]
