Resistance problems

Corrosion Resistance. The environment to which a plated part is to be exposed should be a part of any definition of corrosion resistance. Problems arise in testing a part in its intended environment in part because of the long time period required. In many plating processes, corrosion resistance is direcdy proportional to the plate thickness, so a specification on plate thickness is a much faster method of indirectiy measuring corrosion resistance. In specifying a corrosion resistance requirement for the production of plated goods, accelerated tests are used especially if plate thicknesses caimot be related to corrosion protection.

During the last decade, IRAC has formed several international working gi oups to provide practical solutions to mite and insect resistance problems within major crops and pesticide groups. 

Indeed, the resistance problem has sometimes been severe enough to threaten a loss of control over the pest. A study of a number of resistant strains from the field has revealed two major types of resistance mechanism. Some individuals possess aberrant forms of the target site, the Na" channel. At least two forms are known that confer either kdr (<100-fold) or super kdr (>100-fold) resistance, which is the consequence of the presence of insensitive forms of the Na+ channel protein (McCaffery 1998, and Chapter 4, Section 4.4 of this book). 

Ampicillin is the standard penicillin that has broad-spectrum activity. Increasing Escherichia coli resistance has limited amoxicillin use in acute cystitis. Drug of choice for enterococci sensitive to penicillin. Amoxidllin-davulanate is preferred for resistance problems. 

First, considering safety and resistance problems, agricultural pyrethroids used outdoors in large quantities should be discriminated from pyrethroids used as household insecticides in and around houses from the development stage of preparations.
