Resist materials self-assembling resists

Micro-contact printing (pCP) uses high resolution rubber stamps with inks (e.g. alkanethiols) that form self assembled monolayers (SAMs) on the surface (e.g. thin gold film) that is printed [13]. In one pCP approach, these SAMs act as resists for etching material in the unprinted areas, as illustrated in Fig. 10.11.

Self assembled monolayers (SAMs) have aroused wide spread interest as they provide an opportunity to define the chemical functionality of surfaces with molecular precision, thus creating potential applications related to the control of wettability, biocompatibility and the corrosion resistance of surfaces of a wide range of materials II), Two families of SAMs have received the most attention, SAMs of alkanethiols on gold and alkylsilanes on silicon. 

In a series of papers, Jeschke and coworkers [87-90] as well as Schlick and coworkers [91, 92] studied self-assembled nanocomposite materials made from polymers and natural clays or artificial silicates. These nanocomposite materials have superior mechanical and also heat resistant properties and are hence interesting for applications in the fields of defense and protection. Such polymer-inorganic hybrid materials form complex stmctures and EPR spectroscopy has to be combined with other physical techniques such as NMR spectroscopy, small and...
