Residual heat removal system

For systems with the capabihty of removal of residual heat that are not part of the RCSASs (e.g. the containment spray system, the pressure suppression pool in BWRs), recommendations and guidance are provided in Ref. [3]. [Pg.40]

The function of the residual heat removal system is to remove residual heat from the RCS to the associated systems so as to reach safe shutdown conditions. For most designs this is achieved after a partial cooldown has been effected. [Pg.40]

The residual heat removal system may interface with the following [Pg.40]

Where the residual heat removal system has been designed to operate at low pressures only, appropriate isolation measures should be adopted to preserve its integrity when the RCS is pressurized. [Pg.40]

In the normal operation manual, the reactor decay heat after the reactor shut down is to be removed through the steam generator and the residual heat removal system like the land based PWRs. When this normal procedure is not available due to an accident, the decay heat is removed passively by helps of the EDRS and the CWCS as shown in Fig. 5. The decay heat is transferred from the primary coolant to the water of the containment through the heat exchanger of EDRS, and... [Pg.92]

The Safety Injection and the Residual Heat Removal Systems have been combined and located outside the containment. In order to lower the cost without impairing the safety and reliability, simplifications of the standard well known solutions were examined. [Pg.176]

The possible consequences of a flooding depend on the question whether it is hmited to the outdoor plant area or water actually penetrates into buildings. In the first case, the dominant consequence is apotential loss of offsite power. In case water should penetrate into safety related huildings/rooms, there is additionally a potential for a radioactive release or even a loss of the residual heat removal system. [Pg.1143]

Residual Heat Removal System The residual heat removal sy stem (RHRS) of the NHR 5 consists of two independent trains which assigned to two groups of primary heat e.xchangers. There are three natural circulation cycle for each train. Figure 4 show s the schematic s stem diagram of the RHRS. After reactor shut-down the decay heat will be transferred to the... [Pg.60]

Residual heat can be removed from the primary or secondary circuit and from the containment. There is, thus scope for diversity without being extravagant in the complexity of the systems. There are normally two types of residual heat removal systems (RHRS) systems used during normal operation, and those provided in the safety grade systems. Almost all the SMRs go for passive RHR systems. [Pg.111]

The turbine bypass system enable the NSSS to following large turbine load reductions, bypassing the turbine and discharging steam directly to the condensers. It is also used for temperature control of the RCS during hot shutdown and cooldown until start up of the reactor residual heat removal system. [Pg.114]
