Requirements direct safety

EC Directive on minimum examination requirements for safety advisers for the transport of dangerous... [Pg.563]

Preamble. Engineering is an important and learned profession. The members of the profession recognize that their work has a direct and vital impact on the quality of life for all people. Accordingly, the services provided by engineers require honesty, safety and welfare. In the practice of their profession, engineers must perform under a standard of professional behavior which requires adherence to the highest principles of ethical conduct on behalf of the public, clients, employers and the profession. [Pg.381]

Ponton [60] discusses exemplarily a miniplant concept for performing the Andrussov process, yielding hydrogen cyanide from methane, oxygen and ammonia with a platinum catalyst. HCN is a widely used but highly toxic chemical which requires extreme safety issues, in particular when it is transported or shipped. A miniplant should allow one to produce this toxic material from comparably low toxic ammonia and methane directly on-site at the customer and on-demand in small or even bigger quantities. [Pg.522]

See ia for a thorough discussion of these issues.). A factor such as sunlight will inactivate the great majority of applied virus over a short period of time. The inactivated virus, while perhaps detectable by some antigen-based assay, is of no interest in terms of safety. To assess the level of active virus will require direct assay in their host, caterpillars. These assays are very sensitive because live virus is very infective. [Pg.403]

Chemical inventory and tracking systems provide current information on the site s hazardous chemical and material inventories. A properly integrated inventory and tracking system can support other environment, safety, and health requirements (directives). This is a continuous process performed from acquisition, through storage and use, to final disposal. [Pg.28]

Safety audit reports are written document which the auditors compile in accordance with relevant laws and regulations in order to realize the implementation of a safety audit of the audited entity on the basis of production safety audit opinion. Safety audit report is the direct results of audit work. Safety auditors should work in accordance with the content, scope and requirements of safety audit. And the auditors should also process work papers by sorting and analysis, comprehensive, classification, analysis of audit evidence to identify problems and correct the audit opinion as well as conclusions What s more, those responsible should be asked to sign in safety audit reports. [Pg.1310]

First and basically, it establishes requirements that potentially have a direct effect on the risk level. In this category one finds, for example, rnles on how blowout preventers for exploratory drilling should be constructed, and which qualifications welders should hold. These may be labelled requirements as to the state of matters. But the direct safety regulations also include requirements regarding actions or occurrences. Most important in this latter category are rules on procedures for operations, for example, rules on how to weld certain critical elements of a structure or how to run risk analyses on the structure. The use of both methods, requiring the qualified welder to weld in the specified way, is likely to improve the level of safety. If direct safety requirements are not complied with, the risk for accidents is likely to increase. [Pg.107]

The indirect safety norms may well be used in parallel with the direct norms. And there is little reason not to do that although the indirect norms may seem less potent than the direct norms as a means to achieve safety, they widen the range of tools available for the purpose. Rather than putting all bets on one horse - the detailed do s and don ts that are likely to affect safety directly - the safety regulation also requires the industry to establish procedures and expertise for handling and complying with the direct safety requirements. [Pg.120]

Obviously, the safety norms that the industry itself defines and implements in its own activities have to observe the requirements that are laid down in the acts and regulations pertaining to the activities, as well as in the individual administrative decisions issued on that basis. It may seem less obvious, however, that the control activities also should be governed by statutory requirements. In relation to the state, it might be assumed that the industry s primary obligation is to comply with direct safety norms, potentially having a direct effect on the safety level in the activities. [Pg.127]

Lean safety is a change management tool that requires direct management involvement. [Pg.7]

The safety and health defense can be a minefield for safety professionals. If the employer utilizes this defense, safety professionals may be placed in a difficult position in determining whether or not qualified individuals with a disability create a direct threat to the safety and health of themselves or others in the woikplace. This issue may require the safety professional to evaluate and render a decision that win not only impact the qualified individual with a disability but also the company or... [Pg.108]

Is not a technique for deriving SAV safety requirements directly - these are inferred from assessments of undesired state transitions. [Pg.306]
