The use of soluble dendrimers with phospine ligands experienced a rapid growth and was also transferred to several other dendrimer scaffolds [64—66]. Cyclic ketals (potential cosmetic ingredients) were obtained in excellent yields from a cineole ketone under the action of microwaves in solvent-free conditions or in toluene. The results reported compared very favorably with those obtained by use of conventional heating (Eq. (23) and Tab. 3.9) [76]. 

A similar study has been reported with ortho-hydroxychalcones in dry media on silica gel [107]. Conventional thermal cydization, under the same conditions as for microwave irradiation, required a much longer reaction period (Eq. (57), Tab. 3.24, and Scheme 3.18). 

A simple, rapid and efficient method has been reported for the synthesis of dibenzyl diselenides under the action of MW irradiation. Benzyl halides are reacted with selenium powder in the presence of a base and phase-transfer agent (Eq. 57 and Tab. 5.29) [80]. The reactions were performed either in THF or in C6H6-H20. 

Besson and coworkers reported an original approach for the synthesis of the rare thiazolo-[5,4-/]-quinazoline 29 in six steps [15] from commercially available 2-amino-5-nitrobenzonitrile 22 (Scheme 8.11). The authors studied the transposition of four steps (ii, iii, vi, and vii) of the synthesis of thiazoloquinazoline 29 to microwave irradiation of solutions, with the same concentration of starting material and volume of solvent, and found that yields of the desired compounds were better than those obtained by conventional heating (Tab. 8.3). The overall time for the synthesis of 29 was considerably reduced and the overall yield was enhanced. 

The most important structural data defining the optimized structure of the FeTpivPP(2-meIm)(02) molecule are reported in Tab. 3.2. Only the most important structural data are listed, which are those defining the orientation of the 02 and 2-meIm ligands. As each reaction equation is entered, several checks are performed to catch errors in formulation or typing the correct number of tabs, equals, balanced quotes or parentheses, and conformance to the syntax rules which allows the equation to be separated into reactants and products, and these in turn to be decomposed into atoms. Each time a new chemical species is encountered it is reported to the user, who can determine whether a valid name has been entered. The equation is checked for balances in atomic elements and charges, and discrepancies listed for corrective action. Species names may be either formulas or text in the latter case the balance checking feature must be turned off to avoid false errors. 

Similar to anhydride-bearing polymers, the synthesis of a poly(norborn-2-en-5-yl-methanol)-derived system, polymerized by a Gmbbs catalyst after scavenging excess of reagent, was reported by Hanson (Tab. 8.3) [42, 43].

Among the SAM systems listed in Tab. 9.1, those based on silanes on silica and thiols on (noble) metals represent the majority of the reported accounts. In the following some specific properties of these two systems will be outlined. 

When employed for the RCM of select diene substrates, the yields obtained with supported catalyst (10) matched those acquired with the homogeneous catalyst (9) in all but one case (entry 2, Tab. 11.1). The Marshall Unker [23] has been widely used to synthesize compounds that can be cleaved by primary and secondary amines to afford the corresponding amides. Marshall linker was used in the synthesis of three or more diversity-site hbraries because it allowed the addition of one more diversity element at the cleavage step. While the original reported linker [23] involved the oxidation of the Unker before cleavage, the efficient release of the resin-bound compounds using nucleophiles from the unoxidized linker has been reported [16, 24]. Similarly to the acid-labile linkers, the kinetics of the cleavage reaction and time required for this reaction directly affect the synthesis efficiency, purity and yield of the final products. A cleavage study was carried out on seven resin-bound thiophenol esters (34—40) on Marshall Unker with 3 amines (41-43) (Scheme 12.11 and Tab. 12.4).
