Rennin-angiotensin system

There is a hypothesis that irregularity of the rennin-angiotensin system lies at the base of etiology of all cases of essential hypertension. However, despite all of the apparent attractiveness of this theory, there is still not enough proof for it to be accepted as the single reason of elevated arterial blood pressure. [Pg.306]

Blood pressure is maintained by the kidneys using the rennin-angiotensin system, which increases blood pressure by retaining sodium and water. [Pg.316]

If blood pressure is too high, then the baroreceptors signal the vasomotor center in the medulla to signal the rennin-angiotensin system to excrete sodium and water, thereby lowering the blood pressure. [Pg.316]
