Reliability -centered maintenance RCM

Some firms use Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) as part of their preventative maintenance strategy. 

A. Reliability-centered maintenance RCM provides an engineering, risk-based technique for managing equipment performance. It must also be noted that the type of maintenance program adopted in the facihty may have a significant impact on the frequency of many tasks. For example, a program that includes predictive maintenance information may reduce the frequency of tasks requiring hardware checks for wear or accuracy. Likewise, a good reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) program (see Chap. 2.2) will reduce the frequency of most tasks while increasing the frequency of a lesser number of tasks performed on mission-critical equipment.

The high reliable systems undergo Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) strategy that is implemented to optimize the maintenance program. In aviation the strategy based on RCM for assessment maintenance tasks was developed and is involving as MSG-3 which implement the newest research achievements. 

Reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) focuses on analysis of potential failures. RCM methodology, such as used with aircraft, involves failure modes related to serviceable and/or replaceable components. This process helps predict an impending failure of a component. Complex systems can experience a large number of maintenance requirements, as identified by failure analysis. 

Reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) uses a risk-based approach to organizing maintenance activities. As such, it is analogous to risk-based inspection (RBI), a topic that is discussed later in this chapter. This approach is based on the elements of risk as shown in Equation (1.1). Those items that contribute the most to overall risk receive a higher maintenance priority than those that are considered to be less critical. (In practice, the RCM program may focus more on the consequence term than on overall risk.)...
