Relation between the complexing power of solvents and their acid-base properties

2 Relation between the complexing power of solvents and their acid-base properties [Pg.579]

A tentative explanation of the effeet of solvent has been proposed recently by using the Lewis acid-base eoneept. The acid or basic character of a given solvent was studied simultaneous with its strength of eomplexation in order to establish a relationship between both parameters. [Pg.579]

PMMA stereoeomplexes and self-aggregates exhibit some similar aspects, particularly the eomplexing power of the solvent or the helical structure of paired chains. [Pg.579]

According to Drago s classification, it appears therefore in Table 10.2.2 that ehloro-form exhibits an acid character. PMMA presents a basic character, with =0.68 and Cb=0.96. [Pg.580]

To resume this part, it is possible to eorrelate the complexing power of solvents towards stereoregular PMMA with flieir acid-base character. It appears that complexing solvents exhibit basic character, like PMMA. Moreover, some of them are strongly self-associated. Solvent/solvent and chain/chain interactions are consequently favored, leading to the formation of PMMA aggregates. [Pg.580]
