Even larger basis sets are now practical for many systems. Such basis sets add multiple polarization functions per atom to the triple zeta basis set. For example, the 6-31G(2d) basis set adds two d functions per heavy atom instead of just one, while the 6-311++G(3df,3pd) basis set contains three sets of valence region functions, diffuse functions on both heavy atoms and hydrogens, and multiple polarization functions 3 d functions and 1 f function on heavy atoms and 3 p functions and 1 d function on hydrogen atoms. The adult brain is endowed with nuclear as well as cytosolic and membrane T3 receptors that have been visualized by autoradiography and studied biochemically [30-33]. The opposite of harmony is disharmony. An example of disharmony is the need to repeat tests using rabbits for pyrogen where testing for bacterial endotoxin is otherwise prescribed. This represents the most extreme disharmony of methods. But there is even a greater disharmony, and that would be to reach different eonelusions as to pass/fail the speeimen. In this ease, the quality control professionals must make a judgment as to whether or not this material can be sold in one or more regions. Functionally equivalent to harmonization is the absence of disharmony. Because of a difference in policy, pharmacopoeias may not differ on adoption of a test at all. If certain tests are eonsidered neeessary by one pharmacopeia in order to protect the consumer, it is appropriate for that pharmacopeia to adopt the test without reference to any other region.

In other studies on the domain structure of oligomeric proteins, limited proteolysis, deletions, and site-directed mutagenesis have also successfully provided information about subunit contact regions. Functional domains containing subunit interaction sites of cAMP-dependent protein kinase22 and carbamoyl phosphate synthetase23 have been revealed by such experiments. 

Several of the polymethine dyes absorb in the red, far-red, and near-infrared and fluoresce efficienlly as well in this spectroscopic region. Functional derivatives of these may provide excellent fluorescent labels for semiconductor laser excitation. Several research groups are currently actively involved in the synthesis and development of large polyunsaturated dye molecules that are excited and show luminescence in the red and near-infrared.
