Refrigeration types

In 1989, over 500,000 t/yr of ethylene were traded internationally. The principal exporting countries were in the Middle East, and the principal importing countries were in Western Europe and Asia/Pacific. The tanker fleet that transported the ethylene numbered approximately 30 vessels with capacities ranging from 2000—6500 t (110). These tankers are of the semi-refrigerated type, and transport Hquid ethylene at atmospheric pressure and —104°C. The tankers include rehquefaction plants on board since it is too expensive to vent ethylene. To accommodate the increase in international trade of ethylene, ethylene terminals have been built in the United States, Ear East, Western Europe, and the Middle East with capacities of 35,000 t, 300,000 t, and 70,000 t, respectively (110).

The mass spectrometric gas analysis is on a wet basis, as water vapor is not condensed out of the gas, while the analyzers at the sample port measure a gas stream dried using a permeation tube and refrigeration-type dryers in series. In addition to the measurements described above, surface temperature measurements of the boiler skin are made to estimate radiation losses, using the skin temperature, the room temperature and tabulated heat loss factors based on the temperature difference. Particulate mass emission rate and carbon content are measured for heat and mass balance purposes. At present, material deposited within the boiler during a test is collected but not factored into the heat or mass balances, because this deposition is considered to be negligible. Data taken are used to examine the heat balance for the 20-hp system. 

Various methods are used for removal of moisture from compressed air (i) by absorption in silica gel and then regenerating it by electrical heating or by using heat of compression and (ii) refrigerated type for removing moisture by condensation. 

The refrigerated type is for higher volumes of dry air required. It cools the incoming air and removes the moisture by condensation. 

Auxiliary equipment used to dry resins before processing to ensure that surface properties are within manufacturer specifications. There are several styles of dryers, including ovens, microwave, hot-air desiccant bed, and refrigeration types. 

Various types of air drying plant ate available (i) Electrically heated, (ii) Refrigerated-type, (iii) Using the heat of compression. While the first two consume electricity for regenerating the dryer, the third type nses a part of the compressed hot air. 

The refrigerated type is for higher volumes of dry air required. It cools the incoming air and removes the moisture by condensation. The vendor shuold indicate the maximum volume of moist air that can be handled by the unit and pressure drop on the air side.

Improper storage includes back of the refrigerator -type storage where items end up at the hack and are not used in the proper order. This leads to variation in storage time.
