Refrigerants alternative types

An alternative type of air conditioner used in certain areas of the country needs neither refrigerant gas nor lots of electricity to work. These evaporative coolers, or swamp coolers, take advantage of the cooling ability of evaporating water. 

Jotile-Thomson Valves The principal function of a J-T valve is to obtain isenthalpic coohng of the gas flowing through the valve. These valves generally are needle-type valves modified for cryogenic operation. They are an important component in most refrigeration systems, particularly in the last stage of the liquefac tion process. Joule-Thomson valves also offer an attractive alternative to turboexpanders for small-scale gas-recovery applications. 

Another type comprises a bank of corrugated plates, forming alternative paths for refrigerant and liquid, similar to that shown in Figure 17.1, of brazed or welded construction. 

Ammonia has been used as a refrigerant. In the cooling cycle, gaseous ammonia is alternately compressed to a liquid and allowed to expand back to the gaseous state. The procedures for handling the above types of situations should be written into an excursion SOP and anyone with responsibility for chamber monitoring should be trained on these procedures. The SOP should address the circumstances in which samples would be moved to an alternate chamber. Eor example, if a refrigerated chamber fails, how much time can pass before moving the samples to an alternate... 

Food. The food supply chain is usually defined by product handling characteristics. This could be the management of an expensive ingredient or a type of storage. In these supply chains, supply chain leaders will often speak of frozen, refrigerated, or dry supply chains. Alternatively, they may reference terms like shelf-stable and short life cycle or open-code date supply chains.
