A standard production thermo-mechanical reclaiming machine , designated MRR-031, has been developed by Elast-Tekhologii LLC in Russia [20,21]. In addition, many grades of paper and paperboard are used in direct or indirect contact with foods. Thus, many mills only use paper chemicals that have been cleared for use by the U.S. Pood and Dmg Administration (PDA) (3), so that it is not necessary to segregate machine broke (off-grade paper and edge clippings that are reclaimed for their fiber value) and white water. Most of the chemicals discussed in this article are approved by the PDA for use in paper and paperboard that are intended for appHcations in food processing and packaging. For some applications, such as when it is necessary to dissolve or solvate rubbers, or rubber compounds to form doughs and solutions it is desirable to use a machine in this category. A principal plastic reclaiming process used was developed in the Netherlands by a resin manufacturing firm. In this process, after removal of labels and base cups by machine, the bottles (clear or green) are color sorted and granulated. The PET flake is then washed to remove glue. Another example of using ultrafiltration for wastewater treatment and resource recovery is the separation of oil-water emulsions generated from metal machining, oil field wastes, and enhanced oil recovery effluents. Hydrophilic membranes such as cellulose acetate are preferred because they are effective barriers to oil droplets and are less prone to fouling. The UF permeate readily meets direct discharge standards. The oil-rich stream can be processed to reclaim the oil, or disposed at reduced transportation cost because of its reduced volume. [Pg.384]

The reclaimator process is more attractive than the above processes. The reclaimator is essentially a high-pressure extruder that devulcanizes fiber-free rubber continuously. Ground scrap is mechanically treated in hammer mills to remove the textile material, mixed with reclaiming oils and other materials, and then fed into the reclaimator. High pressure and shear between the rubber mixture and the extruder barrel walls effectively reclaim the rubber mixture. Devulcanization occurs at 175-205°C in a few minutes and turns the rubber into reclaim that issues from the machine continuously. The whole regeneration, which is a dry process, may be completed in about 30 min. [Pg.253]

After solidification, the container is tipped over and the unbonded sand flows out together with the castings. Because there are no binders or other additives the sand is reclaim-able. The castings are then subjected to further operations, e.g. removal of sprue, gate, risers, any machining required, heat treatment, etc. similar to other casting processes. [Pg.294]
