Reaction with magnesium oxide

The reaction with magnesium oxide proceeds differently and gives magnesium hexavanadate, Mg2Ve017.19H20.1... [Pg.46]

Meta.1 Oxides. Halogen-containing elastomers such as polychloropreae and chlorosulfonated polyethylene are cross-linked by their reaction with metal oxides, typically ziac oxide. The metal oxide reacts with halogen groups ia the polymer to produce an active iatermediate which then reacts further to produce carbon—carbon cross-links. Ziac chloride is Hberated as a by-product and it serves as an autocatalyst for this reaction. Magnesium oxide is typically used with ZnCl to control the cure rate and minimize premature cross-linking (scorch). [Pg.236]

Benzyl chloride readily forms a Grignard compound by reaction with magnesium in ether with the concomitant formation of substantial coupling product, 1,2-diphenylethane [103-29-7]. Benzyl chloride is oxidized first to benzaldehyde [100-52-7] and then to benzoic acid. Nitric acid oxidizes directly to benzoic acid [65-85-0]. Reaction with ethylene oxide produces the benzyl chlorohydrin ether, CgH CH20CH2CH2Cl (18). Benzylphosphonic acid [10542-07-1] is formed from the reaction of benzyl chloride and triethyl phosphite followed by hydrolysis (19). [Pg.59]

Those based on the reaction between magnesium oxide and ammonium dihydrogen phosphate (ADP), often in the presence of sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP), which is mixed with water (El-Jazairi, 1982 Abdelrazigeta/., 1984 Abdelrazig, Sharp El-Jazairi, 1988, 1989). [Pg.223]

Cadmium oxide gives rise to a violent thermite reaction with magnesium when it is heated. Detonations occur during this reaction. [Pg.222]

Kino 11 studied the reaction of stearic acid with magnesium oxide, with alloys of magnesium, and many other metals, at high temperatures, and obtained stearone. The present method was developed from a recent reexamination of this reaction.12... [Pg.104]

The reaction of magnesium oxide with silicon produces a very small vapour pressure of magnesium... [Pg.342]

Magnesium iodide is prepared by the reaction of magnesium oxide, hydroxide or carbonate with hydriodic acid, foUowed by evaporation of the solution and crystalhzation ... [Pg.527]

The basic phosphates that occur naturally may be mined from their respective minerals. They may be prepared by reactions of phosphoric acid with magnesium oxide and hydroxide followed by crystallization. Monobasic and dibasic magnesium phosphate are prepared by the action of phosphoric acid on magnesium hydroxide and magnesium oxide, respectively. The tribasic phosphate is made by treating magnesium oxide with phosphoric acid at high temperature. [Pg.533]

A general oxidative cleavage reaction of ketone-derived SAMP-hydrazones can be realized without racemization by reaction with magnesium monoperoxyphthalate (MMPP) hexahydrate in methanol or in methanol/pH 7 phosphate buffer within 2 hours26. [Pg.1011]

Write the reaction for carbon dioxide with magnesium oxide. [Pg.48]

For the higher molecular weight feedstocks such as liquefied petroleum gas (usually propane CjH8) and naphtha (q.v.), nickel catalysts with alkaline carriers or alkaline-free catalysts with magnesium oxide as additive can be used. Both types of catalyst are less active than the conventional nickel catalyst. Therefore, a less rapid decomposition of the hydrocarbons is achieved. At the same time, the reaction of water with any carbon formed is catalyzed. [Pg.408]

Reaction with deuterium oxide, O-deuterated alcohols or acids is commonly used to provide evidence for the formation of organomagnesium compounds (e.g. see Ref. [3]). Although the presence of water normally inhibits the reaction of organic halides with magnesium, it is noteworthy that under appropriate conditions a Barbier procedure was successful [4] ... [Pg.186]

Under the proper conditions it can undergo hazardous reactions with aluminum oxide + heavy metals, dinitrogen tetraoxide, inhibitors, metals (e.g., magnesium. [Pg.912]

Kurzius and Boudart [58] have adopted the same approach as above specifically for the determination of fej by measuring first limits for mixtures of composition 2H2 + O2 and 9H2 + O2 in a 10.2 cm diameter vessel coated with magnesium oxide. Their analysis considered only reactions (i)—(iii) and the surface destruction of H atoms, for which they assumed the surface to have unit efficiency (the results for the two compositions studied seemed to support this). On this basis, however, their results do not appear to be completely consistent with those of Baldwin. Thus, at 520 °C the parameters derived by Baldwin for KCl coated vessels would predict a limit for 2H2 + O2 at ca. 5.7 torr in a 10.2 cm diameter vessel of unit efficiency. The observed limit was 4.56 torr. This difference is reflected in a h her value for namely 6.3 x 10 at 520 °C compared with Baldwin s f re of 4.6x10 l.mole. sec already quoted. Over the temperature range 800—1000 K, Kurzius and... [Pg.35]

At the end of the reaction the oily layer is separated and transferred to a vessel where it is treated with magnesium oxide to neutralise the excess of free acid. [Pg.151]

Chloride of lime may also be employed for decontamination of the skin. In this case the violence of the reaction should be reduced by mixing the bleaching powder with water (i part of water to i part of chloride of lime) or with magnesium oxide. ... [Pg.231]

Derivation Reaction of hydrobromic acid with magnesium oxide and subsequent crystallization. [Pg.777]
