Rational directions

As we are dealing with spherical harmonics, and as we are trying to model the aspherical atomic electron density, the orientation of the local atom centered coordinate system is, in principle, arbitrary, appropriate linear combinations always giving the same result. However, in practice it is helpful to choose a local coordinate system such that the multipoles are oriented in rational directions, and thus the most important multipole populations will lie in directions that would be expected to represent chemical bonds or lone pairs [2,20], e.g. for an sp2 hybridized atom, defining one bond as the x direction, the trigonal plane as the xy plane, and z perpendicular defines three lobes of the 33+... 

Only a global change of education based fully on the exact knowledge of the brain mechanisms that enable the manipulation of individuals can lead, at some point in the future, to the desired rationally directed society. 

Since the revolution of the Enlightenment that opened the way for rapid progress in science/technology, the myths-directed, chaotically heterogeneous communities of humans are still in the stage of transformation directed towards the irreversible establishment of a rationally directed, homogeneous human society. 

The main message of this monograph is that the appearance of the mammalian brain with the ability to acquire drives ensured the development of social life and ultimately led to the evolution of human society. This most sophisticated form of organized life on earth is still in the trial-and-error phase of its development. It seeks to outgrow the myths-directed era of its history and arrive at its final state, the rationally directed human society. 

We continue in our goal of providing a text whidi is useful, not only to the clinician, but of equal interest to the investigator. The selection of content has been directed at topics of current interest rather than those of historic contribution. We have stressed the contribution of cell biology and pathophysiology, were it exists, believing it provides both a better understanding of toxic injury when known, and a rational direction for therapy and prevention. 

Improved methods of screening for biocatalysts should be quicker, more accurate, selective and more easily automated. The emphasis should be on rational, direct screening procedures rather than indirect or random methods. Such rational direct methods could involve six steps ...

Perhaps the most important aspect of the calculation of the transitions and MOs involved is that the spatial distribution of these MOs can be superimposed on the molecules or complexes. These redistributions of MOs often result in diverse (even small) changes in the absorption spectra that can be translated into qualitative information given the fact that these changes depend on the nature of the functional groups and the analyte. From the design perspective, it is important to see which moieties are most intimately connected to the spectroscopic features and their associated changes to rationally direct the synthetic work toward these structural features. 

Second, measurements of intrinsic aqueous solubility of A1-A5 (Scheme 25) show a modest increase by a factor of 2.5 (which is achieved without altering the inherent biological activity of the API), but, more importantly, the trend in solubility can readily be rationalized directly in terms of the aqueous solubilities of the dicarboxylic acids.

Whether this can be rationalized directly by reaction (11) yielding sulfinyl radicals besides thiols, or involves a more complex reaction scheme still remains an open question. There seems little doubt about the production of the sulfinyl radicals, as they could unambiguously be identified in complementary ESR experiments in which the hydroxyl radicals were generated via Fenton chemistry in acid solutions [23]. One mechanistic suggestion put forward [22] discusses the intermediacy of an OH-adduct radical, R-S (OH)-S-R which in basic solution may suffer OH attack to yield RS together with the hydrated form of the sulfinyl radical, RS(OH)2 . In acid solution, on the other hand, a secondary oxidation of the sulfenic acid (formed in reaction (10)) by disulfide radical cations (also formed upon OH reaction with disulfides, vide infra), that is reaction (12) has been brought into the discussion. 

A complex view of reality appears in the form of a scientific model, which is a simplified abstract of the reality. It may represent empirical objects, phenomena, and physical processes in a logical way. Herein, logical way is mostly concerned with rational directly or inversely proportionalities as will be explained in Chap. 4. 

In a real situation, we will find many negative answers to such questions. The intention is to serve as a guide in improvements in a more rational direction. 

There is, first of all, the iaissez-faire attitude of the modern hedonistic world, which results particularly in almost no change in deeply rooted though hazardous local eating habits. The usually inadequately informed consumer should not be blamed for this behaviour. Endeavours should, however, be made towards a change in a more rational direction.
