For early cirrhosis of the liver with abdominal distention, bleeding gums, yellow urine, constipation, a red tongue with thin, yellow coating, and a wiry, thready, rapid pulse, add Radix Polygoni Multiflori (He Shou Wu), Herba Ecliptae Prostratae (Han Lian Cao), Carapax Amydae (Bie Jia), Concha Ostreae (Mu Li), and Fructus Meliae Toosendan (Chuan Lian Zi). If there is also edema and loose stools, add Rhizoma Atractylodis... 

For uterine bleeding which is excessive in amount but pale in color and thin in consistency, add Gelatinum Corii Asini EJiao), Ramus Loranthi Seu Visci SangJi Sheng), and Radix Polygoni Multiflori He Shou Wu). 

For poor memory and hair loss, add Radix Polygoni Multiflori (He Shou Wu). 

For fluid dryness constipation, add Semen Cannabis Sativae Huo Ma Ren), Herba Cistanchis (Ron Cong Rong), Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae (Niu Xi), Radix Polygoni Multiflori He Shou Wu), and Fructus Immaturus Citri Seu Ponciri (Zhi Shi).

It has been found both raw and processed Polygoni Multiflori Radix may cause liver damage [38, 39 ].
