Polygonum multiflorum (Shou wu Pian) was prescribed by a Chinese herbalist for a 46-year-old woman with graying hair (5). After taking it for 2 weeks she developed signs and sjmptoms of hepatitis. The history revealed no plausible cause for hepatitis and viral infection was ruled out. After withdrawal of the P. multiflorum her liver enzymes normalized and she recovered fully. [Pg.2890]
