Quantitative estimation of landfill gas production

Similarly to the composition, the amount of landfill gas varies with the age of the landfill. In general, the most intense release of gas begins after approximately two years from the landfill closing and lasts for about 20-30 years. The amount of gas generated at the landfill depends mainly on the amount of accumulated waste and its morphological composition, as well as the phase of biochemical transformation of waste. [Pg.20]

Changes in the morphological composition of waste that have taken place over time are showed by the studies conducted in the years 1992-2004 in the Polish city Wroclaw, with the population of about 630 thousand residents (Mackow et al. 2005). In this period, the decline in the share of fines, and the increase in glass and plastic content were observed. Morphological composition of waste also depends on the season. Boldrin Christensen (2010) presented that the amoimt of garden waste per capita varied from 2.5 kg month in winter, up to 19.4 kg month in summer. [Pg.20]

Theoretical biogas production potential of waste ranged from 150 to 265 m Mg (Bhide, 1990 Zamorano et al. 2007). Such wide range of results is caused by the differences in proportions of C H 0 N in the molecular formula of waste, which depends on morphological composition of waste. The biogas production potential of municipal solid waste from Granada (Spain), described by the formula of organic matter was calculated for [Pg.23]

160 m Mg raw waste (Zamorano et al. 2007). Theoretical biogas production potential of food wastes coming out from hazelnut, rice, and wine industrial processing, described by the molecular formulas C, H5303jN, C, H j50 3N and CjjHjjOjjN were 960 m Mg VS 790 m Mg VS, and 900 Mg VS, respectively (Roati et al. 2012). [Pg.23]
