Studied computationally. B3LYP/6-31G calculations indicate that this process has a barrier of 68.8 kJ mol and a reaction energy of 83.1 kJ mol . Thus this acyclic dimer seems to be less fragile and less energetic than the cyclic dimer (barrier 40.7, reaction energy 182kJmol ). Esters of the dimeric 3-CO2, dicarbonic acid or pyrocarbonic acid, are known and are stable (analogonsly to the fact that esters of... [Pg.167]

FIGURE 7.6 Decomposition of a mixed anhydride (A) to the 2-alkoxy-5(4//)-oxazolone and the alkyl carbonate.9 The latter is in equilibrium with the anion whose reaction (B) with a second molecule of anhydride produces pyrocarbonate and the acid anion whose reaction (C) with a third molecule produces the symmetrical anhydride. The oxazolone eventually reacts with the alcohol to give the ester. (D) Acyloxonium ions formed by reaction of the anhydride with dimethylformamide and tetrahydrofuran. [Pg.204]

The synthetic procedures mentioned in this section certainly do not cover all the known routes leading to depsipeptides. Some seldom-used or potentially useful but not yet practically employed techniques are inevitably missing. For example, such potential might be attributed to the method of carboxylic acid activation by pyrocarbonates suggested by Pozdnev in 1992J120i In particular, this author has shown in some model cases that Boc20 in the presence of pyridine and a catalytic amount of 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine forms an ester link between an amino acid and an a-hydroxy acid in 80-90% yield. [Pg.288]

In dissociating solvents, perfluoroalkyl iodides react with a zinc-copper couple to give perfluoroalkylzmc compounds, R Znl, which react with alkyl carbonates or pyrocarbonates to give perfluorocarboxylic acids or esters, respectively [55] (equations 47 and 48)... [Pg.680]

The protocol described also can be used for the acylation of ketone enolates with carbonic acid derivatives (Figure 13.62). Especially good acylating agents are cyanocarbonic acid methyl ester (Mander s reagent, Figure 13.62, top) and dialkyl pyrocarbonates (bottom). Usually it is not possible to use dimethyl carbonate for the acylation of ketone enolates because dimethyl carbonate is a weaker electrophile than cyanocarbonic acid methyl ester or diethyl pyrocarbonates. [Pg.580]
