Push nozzle

Push nozzle A push jet, located either on a working surface or above a process. [Pg.1470]

The expander is now ready to be put into operation. Open the compressor inlet valve and expander discharge valve simultaneously. Then open the compressor discharge valve. Make sure the variable nozzles are in the closed position. Push the start button on the control panel to open the inlet shutdown valve. [Pg.294]

The ACGIH " gives recommendations for the design of a push-pull system, apparently based largely on the work of NIOSH in the 1980s the nozzle should be between 3.2 mm and 6.4 mm and that the so-called momentum factor of the jet, the product of its velocity and flow rate per unit width, U,ij should be between 0.39 and 0.59 m s -. The outlet flow rate may then be calculated using the formula... [Pg.945]

Micro-jet arrays are usually associated with lower energy consumption rates than sprays generated by the special (HAGO) nozzle for the same flow rate. The liquid was pushed through a 0.5 mm stainless steel orifice plate to form the jets. The holes in the plate were laser drilled and were arranged in a circular pattern giving a radial... [Pg.16]

As the gas pressure inside the extinguisher increases, it pushes a jet of water out of the extinguisher s nozzle. Because soda acid extinguishers expel water, they should only be used on class "A" fires. Class "A" fires are those that involve wood, paper, cardboard, and cloth. Soda-acid fire extinguishers should never be used on electrical or grease fires because the water they use can cause these kinds of fires to spread and burn out of control. [Pg.45]

A fireman is holding the nozzle of a fire hose that he is using to put out a fire. The hose is 3 in. in diameter, and the nozzle is 1 in. in diameter. The water flow rate is 200 gpm, and the loss coefficient for the nozzle is 0.25 (based on the exit velocity). How much force must the fireman use to restrain the nozzle Must he push or pull on the nozzle to apply the force What is the pressure at the end of the hose where the water enters the nozzle ... [Pg.140]

When a fully inflated car tyre is allowed to deflate, the air streaming through the nozzle is cold to the touch. The pressure of the air within the tyre is fairly high, so opening the tyre valve allows it to leave the tyre rapidly - the air movement may even cause a breeze. We could feel a jet of cold air on our face if we were close enough. As it leaves the tyre, this jet of air pushes away atmospheric air, which requires an effort. We say that work is performed. (It is a form of pressure-volume work, and will be discussed in more depth later, in Section 3.2.)... [Pg.88]

Piezo. This is the same basic print head technology as in continuous inkjet. The ink jet droplets are forced out through the nozzle after an electrical signal to the piezoelectric crystal causes a pressure wave to be set up in the ink (Figure 2.35b). The wave can be produced in the bend mode, as in Figure 2.35b or in a push or shear mode. An important variation on piezo technology is the Xaar... [Pg.144]

To use the bomb, the vessel A is set in an upright position and charged with reactants and solvent B is then pushed home into A with the valve F open and the securing collar D is screwed down hand-tight.t The vessel is evacuated with a vacuum pump attached to the nozzle of F, the valve is closed and the vacuum line removed. The bomb is then positioned behind adequate safety shielding, preferably in an isolated position, and heated in an oil bath or preferably by an electrical heating tape wound around the barrel A. [Pg.98]

Finally there are dynamic methods to measure the surface tension. For example, a liquid jet is pushed out from a nozzle, which has an elliptic cross-section. The relaxation to a circular cross-section is observed. An advantage of this method is that we can measure changes of the surface tension, which might be caused by diffusion of amphiphilic substances to the surface. [Pg.14]

Molecular beams are very important tools for characterizing intermolecular and intramolecular reactions. In fact, the 1988 Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to Yuan Lee, Dudley Herschbach, and John Polanyi for studies which were mostly made possible by this technique. A particularly useful variant is the supersonic molecular beam, which in the simplest case pushes a high-pressure mixture of helium and trace amounts of some larger guest molecule through a nozzle. When the helium atoms enter the... [Pg.159]

A practical example of this is the coldness at the nozzle of a rapidly deflating balloon. The internal energy, U, possessed by the gas is being used to provide work to push back the atmospheric pressure to allow the air contained within the balloon to be released from the balloon envelope. Loss by the air of this internal energy, A U, causes the temperature of the emerging air to fall. [Pg.29]

It turned out [81] that the result (qG/qi) is independent of whether or not the nozzle pushes the gas against the hydrostatic pressure or sucks it from a space with lower pressure, ApG. Both pressures have to be taken as sum 2Ap = pgH + ApG. Therefore, the process number Fr is expanded as follows ... [Pg.135]
