Providing the Best Examples

We will examine the example of red-emitting phosphor in some detail, since Eu "-activated phosphors provide the best example of the practical realization of these principles. First consider the effect of the spectral width. Figure 4, taken from Levine and Palilla O), shows a series of hypothetical spectra, of different widths, which yield the same overall red color, namely, the same ratio X/Y. (Blue response Z can be ignored in this example because of the remoteness of the z curve see Figure 3.)... 

Of the modern ideas implicit in this book, the most important ones that become explicit in the next few decades are the concept of neutral salt as a combination of an acid with a base, that is, an alkali, an earth, or a metal. Neutral salts also provide the best examples of material composition as confirmed by analysis and synthesis. 

The Mallik case study (Figures 7.36 and 7.37) provides the best example of well logs in a permafrost hydrate reservoir, followed closely by the Leg 204 (Figures 7.26 and 7.27) example for ocean hydrates. All four of the case studies for field hydrates have associated logs.

In designing a preconcentration scheme to operate in real time, consideration must be given to kinetic factors involved in the preconcentration step. In general, any preconcentration step will alter the trace metal s chemical equilibrium and will involve a time-dependent reaction or mass-transfer step. Of those species likely to be affected during preconcentration, the most thermodynamically and kinetically stable are typically the organically bound forms. Organically bound copper has been carefully studied and provides the best example. 

Carbon-hydrogen activation on rhodium and iridium is well documented. The complexes Cp Rh(PMe)3(H)2 Cp Ir(PMe3)H2, and Cp Ir(CO)2 provide the best examples of C-H activation.
