Protein predictability

The structure and sequence of the catalytic moiety have been determined (06, V6, W6). The enzyme consists of 362 amino acids and 40,638 daltons of the protein predicted by the cDNA sequence. The ADA gene spans 32 kb and consists of 12 exons. The apparent promoter region of the gene lacks the TATA and CAAT sequences often found in eukaryotic promoters and is extremely G/C rich. The location of the ADA gene is on chromosome 20ql2-ql3.11 (Jl). [Pg.14]

In another approach to improving the significance of mass matches, Demirev et al. have constructed a truncated database comprising proteins predicted to be abundant by estimating codon bias.72,73 The size of the entries for each organism can be selected, for example, as the 10 proteins predicted to be most abundant. [Pg.263]

Bioinformatics uses computers to create and maintain large electronic databases on genomes, protein sequences, and proteomes. With the help of protein prediction software, the computer analysis of genome sequences is producing thousands of new proteins of unknown structure and function. These proteins are called hypothetical proteins because they are predicted from the gene sequence. To know if they really exist would require that they be isolated, purified, and subjected to X-ray crystallography or... [Pg.79]
