Proprietary networks

In physical markets, geographical distance and political boundaries hinder the free movement of goods and people. Similarly, closed proprietary networks separate virtual markets artificially by establishing barriers to interoperability. This is equivalent to having a railway system with different track widths so that several sets of identical rail cars must be maintained and passengers must be transferred at all exchange points. 

The IEEE 802.15.4 wireless standard for low-rate WPAN (LR-WPAN) supports low data rate communication over a short-range transmission channel. This section reviews several standardized and proprietary networks (or mesh) layer protocols that mn over IEEE 802.15.4-based networks.

As the data within the DCS are digital in nature, interfaces to upper level computers are technically easier to implement. The methods used for catalyst library design are quite divers. Industrial companies, like Symix, Avantium, hte GmbH, Bayer AG are using their own proprietary methods. In academic research the Genetic Algorithm (GA) is widely applied [11,12]. Recently Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) and its combination with GA has been reported [13,14]. In these studies ANNs have been used for the establishment of composition-activity relationships. 

Molecular Design Limited (MDL) has marketed an Integrated Scientific Information System tlSISt. which provides the capability to query multiple systems, including binary, text, proprietary, and relational databases across glohal networks, thereby providing transparent deskiop access to multiple autonomous data sources. 

For a group of computers to become a network, intercomputer communication is required. Prior to the 1980s, each system vendor used a proprietary protocol to network its computers. Ad hoc approaches were sometimes used to connect third-party equipment but were not cost-effective with regard to system maintenance, upgrade, and expansion.
