Project plans, diving

The correct selection of the number of divers necessary to complete a specified task goes some way to ensuring the safe conclusion of any diving operation. While Regulation 6 of DWR and the ACOP indicate the minimum team size to be four -supervisor, diver, standby diver and tender - the Diving Project Plan, in addition to detailing the task and associated risks, will address the requirement for diving team personnel and should specify and justify the team size necessary for a particular task. [Pg.104]

The marine environment differentiates offshore work from that done onshore. Work is done on the water, in or with a boat under the water in diving operations or above the water, in or on a wind turbine. Weather is a factor for land-based work, but in the offshore environment, the weather and sea state (wind speed, wave height, visibility, etc.) are deciding factors. A typical offshore wind project will plan for significant downtime due to bad weather conditions. Unlike workers onshore, offshore technicians do not drive themselves to the work site but are transported by a vessel, which has its own crew. Offshore technicians are dependent on a complex logistical arrangement that includes transfer to and from a vessel or helicopter, coordination with other marine vessels, and extra marine rescue equipment (for example, an immersion suit). Training,... [Pg.33]

Whenever two or more project or maintenance activities are being conducted at a facility at the same time, a Simultaneous Operations (SIMOPs) Plan is needed in order to ensure that potential clashes do not create environmental or safety problems. An effective SIMOPs program is particularly needed at offshore facilities because they are so congested and because multiple activities such as drilling, diving, boat unloading, and production could aU be going on at one time. [Pg.18]
