Programmable delay times

Especially cavity temperature sensors are increasingly used to control the injection molding process. Here, the arrival of the melt front on the sensor is detected in real time and used for switch over operations in real time. In contrast to the cavity pressure measurement, the position of the melt is always known this way and can he optimized with the help of programmable delay times. This allows moving weld lines in a certain direction, and the meeting of the melt (e.g., in sequential molding) can he optimized [8]. 

Figure 5.23 shows a door sill from the automotive sector that is produced in the sequential molding process. After opening the first nozzle (1), the melt reaches the first cavity temperature sensor, which automatically initializes the opening of the second nozzle (2). Following the same principle, the following nozzles (3 and 4) are automatically opened and the melt flow can be optimized with the help of programmable delay times. 

The time resolution is under software control with programmable delays of three track times to 3000 seconds between acquired spectra. The lower limit is due to the lag phenomenon discussed above. Although the use of these detection enhancement parameters may increase specificity of VT detection, the concern exists that these parameters may mistakenly inhibit therapy, or delay time to detection, for true VT. To circumvent this, ICD programs allow therapy to be delivered when a tachycardia is sustained for a programmed period of time. If a therapy is withheld because of discriminators and the rate of the tachycardia remains in a detection zone, therapy will be delivered once the programmable duration period has expired. This feature ensures delivery of therapy if a tachycardia is sustained at a high rate for a period of time, regardless of whether the device categorizes it as SVT or VT. 

The legislation makes specific provision for the time between authorisation and placing on the market. In some Member States, where it is necessary to obtain approval for reimbursement, this may entail a delay of some months. This is a crucial area and one which should be given maximum attention during the planning process, as the length of time required to ensure adequate clinical trial supplies can never be underestimated. Inadequacy of clinical trial supplies can be a reason for delay in the execution of a clinical development programme. The explanation is likely to be threefold.
