Device drivers are small pieces of software that are loaded to allow the computer to talk to hardware devices. Drivers control and understand these hardware devices. For example, if you want DOS to be able to use a sound card, a driver needs to be loaded for it. When you load a driver, it is allocated memory from the conventional memory area.
