From the standpoint of a military product, system effectiveness is the probabiUty that the system meets successfully an operational demand within a given time when operating under specified conditions. From the standpoint of commercial products, system effectiveness is harder to define, but basically means customer satisfaction. There are several system parameters that are important to the customer. Some of these parameters are defined below. [Pg.5]

For the other broad category of reaction conditions, the reaction proceeds under conditions of thermodynamic control. This can result from several factors. Aldol condensations can be effected for many compounds using less than a stoichiometric amount of base. Under these conditions, the aldol reaction is reversible, and the product ratio will be determined by the relative stability of the various possible products. Conditions of thermodynamic control also permit equilibration among all the enolates of the nucleophile. The conditions that permit equilibration include higher reaction temperatures, protic solvents, and the use of less tightly coordinating cations. [Pg.467]

One of the most interesting results of the zinc ferrite synthesis is the observation that the yield of the product is dependent on the early pressure history. This behavior is shown in Fig. 8.3, which plots the yield versus temperature for baratol explosive loading and for Composition B explosive loading. The difference between these loadings is that the initial pressure pulse amplitude is significantly greater with Composition B. Apparently, the early pressure history has an important conditioning effect for subsequent reactions. [Pg.183]

In the production of crude oil, the greatest part of the crude oil occurs as a water-in-oil emulsion. The composition of the continuous phase depends on the water/oil ratio, the natural emulsifier systems contained in the oil, and the origin of the emulsion. The natural emulsifiers contained in crude oils have a complex chemical structure, so that, to overcome their effect, petroleum-emulsion demulsifiers must be selectively developed. As new oil fields are developed, and as the production conditions change at older fields, there is a constant need for demulsifiers that lead to a rapid separation into water and oil, as well as minimal-residual water and salt mixtures. [Pg.325]

The manufacture of products, e.g. containers and lids, made from filled foamed PE by gas counter pressure injection moulding was studied with special reference to the effect of production conditions on dimensional stability. Results obtained are discussed and evaluated. 7 refs. [Pg.112]

In conclusion, thermodynamic analysis can provide the optimal operating conditions to achieve the best ATR performance. It has been found that preheating the reactants promotes H2 production. This effect is more pronounced at higher H20 CH4 ratios and at 02 CH4 molar ratios ranging from 0.1 to 0.7. Employing... [Pg.302]

A related matrix effect of considerable analytical interest is the enhancement in absolute ion yield sometimes observed under conditions of high dilution in a solid matrix (22). Comparison of the SIMS spectrum of a neat pyrilium salt with that of the same salt diluted 1000-fold in NH Cl shows that the intact cation signal is observed in about three times greater abundance for the NH Cl-diluted sample. The threefold increase is observed even when the absolute amount of salt analyzed in the dilute sample is one thousand times less than that in the neat sample. An additional aspect of this experiment is the persistence of the enhanced signal. Ion bombardment yields products for one day in the NH Cl matrix, but for only about one hour in the neat sample under identical conditions. Effective desorption of ammonium chloride, which entrains analyte, is one way of accounting for these observations. [Pg.11]
