Surprisingly, zinc has been inserted directly into C—F bonds using ultrasound techniques, and in the presence of metal salts, e.g. SnCl2. The reactivity of the system appears to depend at least partly on the electron affinity of the aromatic system, because hexa-fluorobenzene is relatively unreactive in the process [57] (Figure 10.16). [Pg.373]

The plastic molding process may be combined with deep etch X-ray lithography to fabricate microstructures with different shapes in the third dimension" In the first step, only the upper part of a very thick resist layer is patterned with the embossing technique using a mold insert fabricated by the standard LIGA process. The relief structure obtained by this first patterning process is subsequently exposed to synchrotron radiation through a precisely... [Pg.377]

Currently, multiple-component, internal gas-assisted and decorative processes are being used more and more frequently in combination with thin-wall techniques. A good example of this is the trend to highly individualized cell phone designs. Decorative processes such as inmold decoration or insertion of preformed, printed foils makes variable coloration of even small run volumes possible. The internal gas-assisted method is used for example to reduce the mass of thick-walled parts and to avoid sink marks minimization of warpage is thus a primary requirement for thin-walled parts. A wide variety of functions can be realized by means of the multiple-component technique, including seals, napped surfaces, improved antishp properties and functional elements, some of which are now still being mounted in complex and expensive additional steps. [Pg.344]

Pipelined models Quite often the signal-to-signal model is implemented as a pipelined model were the process is seen as one of passing representations from one module to the next. Each module performs one specific task such as part-of-speech tagging, or pause insertion and so on. No explicit distinction is made between analysis and synthesis tasks. These systems are often highly modular, such that each module s job is defined as reading one type of information and producing another. Often the modules are not explicitly linked so that different theories and techniques can co-exist in the same overall system. [Pg.39]

It is possible to strip undercuts for parts molded of these processes in some cases and threads can be molded-in. However, side actions or split cavities, as would be required for details A and G, are more commonplace. Threaded inserts, like those at E and H, can also be molded-in. However, it may be more advantageous to emplace them after molding with adhesives since the molding cycle will be shorter and the risk of one misplaced insert ruining an entire moldment is ehminated. The other common methods of assembling compression, transfer, and thermoset injection-molded parts are self-tapping screws (holes can be tapped), adhesives, snap-fits, press-fits, and the usual screw and bolt techniques. None of the plastics welding techniques can be used with thermoset parts. [Pg.691]
