Process control integrity

Many points important in reactor design have not been discussed. Nothing has been said about selection of materials of construction, mechanical construction, instrumentation and process control, integration of heat recovery into the overall plant energy system, etc. But it is hoped that the paper will anyhow give an idea about the complexity of the problems encountered in the reactor design and about the solutions which are applied in order to obtain satisfactory results in industrial practice. [Pg.818]

The process monitors and controllers typically also have the capabiUty for data logging, analysis, and display. This capabiUty has made on-line control of pilot plants, as well as commercial-scale processes, desirable. Pilot-plant appHcations for on-line control have been described (106), and the use of such systems for both monitoring and process diagnosis has been discussed (107). A number of commercially available process control programs that mn on microprocessors have been reviewed (108). Virtually all of them incorporate graphic display as an integral part of the interactive capabiUty of the program. [Pg.65]

Ensuring the integrity of process controls involves both hardware issues, software issues, and human issues. Of these, the hardware issues are usually the easiest to assess and the software issues the most difficult. [Pg.796]

Today, one has many choices in the area of controller-integrated circuits. One must decide early in the design process how much functionality and integration... [Pg.70]

Integrated control systems are mainly found on factory-assembled equipment, but the increased use of programmable logic controllers for process control is giving designers and installation mechanics the experience to apply these methods to custom-built refrigeration systems [26]. [Pg.120]

The Cluster Tool Concept. A recent trend in semiconductor equipment is the integration of two or more functions, such as CVD, PVD, etching, stripping, or rapid thermal processing, in one piece of equipment the so-called cluster tool. A continuous vacuum can be maintained, a feature which reduces the handling and contamination problems, increases the overall throughput, improves the process control, and generally lowers the cost. [Pg.363]

Integration of the separation and reaction step has several advantages, but an inherent downside of such a process intensification step is the loss of degrees of freedom for process design and process control (Figure 10.9). [Pg.232]

Further stability models based on surface area, equilibrium water-content-pressure relationships, and electric double-layer theory can successfully characterize borehole stability problems [1842]. The application of surface area, swelling pressure, and water requirements of solids can be integrated into swelling models and mud process control approaches to improve the design of water-based mud in active or older shales. [Pg.62]
