Anticholinergics (cholinergic blocking drug) reduce gastric motility and decrease the amount of acid secreted by the stomach (see Chap. 25). Examples of anticholinergics used for GI disorders include propantheline (Pro-Banthine) and glycopyrrolate (Robinul). [Pg.472]

Olsalazine (Dipentum) Pramoxine (Anusol Ointment, ProctoFoam-NS) Pramoxine w/ Hydrocortisone (Enzone, ProctoFoam-HC) Propantheline (Pro-Banthine) Sulfasalazine (Azulfidine, Azulfidine EN)... [Pg.49]

Several other atropine-like drugs are used as antispasmodics. These include homatropine, hyoscine, hyoscine-n-butylbromide (Buscopan), propantheline (Pro-Banthine). Some care should be exercised in their use in children and the elderly, as relative overdosage has been reported, leading to signs of hyoscine poisoning. [Pg.189]

Oral 5 mg tablets 5, 10, 15 mg extended-release tablets patch (3.9 mg/day) 5 mg/5 mL syrup Propantheline (generic, Pro-Banthine, others)... [Pg.168]

Propantheline Pro-Banthine Peptic ulcer, irritable bowel syndrome, urinary incontinence... [Pg.269]

Propantheline bromide (Pro-banthine) resembles methantheline chemically (isopropyl groups replace the ethyl substituents on the quaternary N atom). Its pharmacological properties are also similar to those of methantheline, but it is two to five times more potent. It is one of the more widely used of the synthetic muscarinic receptor antagonists. Very high doses block the skeletal neuromuscular junction. The usual clinical dose (15 mg) acts for about 6 h. [Pg.207]

Propantheline (Pro-Banthine) also has ganglionblocking properties. It may be used as a smooth... [Pg.444]

Propantheline bromide (pro-banthine) is a widely used synthetic nonselective muscarinic receptor antagonist. High doses produce the symptoms cf ganglionic blockade toxic doses block the skeletal neuromuscular junction. Its duration of action is comparable to that of atropine. [Pg.125]

The elderly client diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is prescribed propantheline (Pro-Banthine), an antispasmodic. Which signs or symptoms indicate an adverse reaction to the medication ... [Pg.134]
