Printing artwork design

For the DWEP printed circuit board, a final physical size of 3 by 4 inches was achieved. In addition, to the small physical size, the routed printed circuit board was also composed of four layers of conductive copper. After post router verification of the board artwork design, five four-layered prototype printed circuit boards were manufactured and electrically and thermally tested by the fabrication shop (Sovereign Electronics, Youngstown, OH) prior to shipping. The total cost for these five prototype printed circuit boards was approximately 1800. 

Determine the column width and page length of the printed publication to which the art will be submitted. For best results, prepare your artwork in the actual size at which it will appear. Art textiles. Artists may produce prints as part of their art practice. Artists or print designers may also produce artworks, as commissioned by architects or interior designers, often configured as installations or displays. Many artists/designers working within this field supplement their practice with teaching and research within educational institutions. 

During e design process, artwork is generated for each layer to be printed, with the dark porhons corresponding to the printed areas as seen in the examples in Figure 5.2 [2-4]. 

A standardized process is not nsed to determine the amount of undercut resulting from the etching process that creates the traces from the layers of copper of a printed circuit board. Circuit board manufacturers have their own techniqnes for adjusting artwork to provide the desired trace size in a design. Variations exist from one manufacturer to another. The IPC Process Capability, Qnahty, and Relative Rehabihty (PCQR ) database is a source for determining the capabihty of a circnit board manufactnrer.Two of the pieces of data collected are trace width and thickness source. This database is a source for finding the cross-sectional area of a trace of a final prodnct compared to the initial artwork. Etch back is primarily a concern for small traces where the aspect ratio (the ratio of width to thickness) is small.
