Column Width...

The second item in the menu bar is (Data), which lists the selections (Round, Column Width), respectively (Choose Vectors). 

Round, Column Width) permits the raw data presentation to be adjusted by choosing the number of significant digits to which the numbers are rounded to, see Presentation of Numbers below the column width is automatically adjusted. 

There are four columns of data, one column for time and the other three for the voltage data for the selected traces. Once again we need to modify the first row so that the text labels fit within the columns. When we remove the leading spaces from the text labels and we change the column widths in the spreadsheet, the labels for the columns are easily seen ... 

It appears that with a proper choice of confining gas and of column width, "spin can be induced at will... 

Use a narrower column width (that is, indented on both sides) for longer quotations (extracts) of 50 words or more. Do not use quotation marks. 

However, this convention does not apply in an article quoting someone who has been interviewed. In such cases, quoted text need not be differentiated by column width, and quotation marks should be used. 

For a printed publication, you can determine the column width and page length by measuring a sample copy of the journal or a similar book from the same publisher. 

For ACS journals, try to design figures to fit the width of one column. Table 15-2 gives the column widths and page lengths of many ACS publications. 

The details pertaining to the experiments along with the comparison between model predictions and experimental observations is shown in Table XL It can be seen that the agreement is favorable over a wide range of column widths, hole diameters, and numbers of holes.

Establish the column widths required for the various activities. 

Print Preview is useful in other ways besides showing what your finished worksheet will look like when printed. If you preview your worksheet and then return to the dociunent window, page breaks will be displayed on the worksheet as dashed lines, to assist you in adjusting column widths, for example, before printing.

You can also change the column width by using the mouse pointer. Place the cursor on the separator bar between column headings, on the right of the column whose width you want to change. The cursor changes to a double-headed arrow ... 

Click the mouse button and drag to the right or left to change column width. The column width is displayed in an "InfoBox" as you drag the separator bar. 

Excel Tip. To adjust several columns at a time to the same width, select the columns, then perform the column width adjustment with the mouse pointer on any of the selected columns. When you release the mouse button, all the columns will have the adjusted width. You can also get a "best fit" simply by double-clicking on the row or column separator. To adjust several rows or columns at once, select the columns, then double-click on any row or column separator.

In constructing this spreadsheet, we have learned some of the basics of spreadsheet operation, including typing text into a spreadsheet, changing column widths with the mouse, duplicating cells with the fill handle, and entering formulas into a spreadsheet.

Columns can be sorted by clicking on column headings. Column width can be adjusted by dragging the divisions between headings.
