Principals and Contributors

Jasmine. Jasmine is one of the most precious florals used ia perfumery. The concrete of jasmine is produced by hydrocarbon extraction of flowers from Jasminum officinale (var. GrandijJorum). The concrete is then converted to absolute by alcohoHc extraction. It is produced ia many countries, the most important of which is India, followed by Egypt. Jasmine products are rather expensive and are produced ia relatively small amounts compared with other materials. However, jasmine is particularly important ia perfume creation for its great power and aesthetic quaUties. Eour of the principal odor contributors to jasmine are OT-jasmone [488-10-8] (14), methyl jasmonate [91905-974-] (15), benzyl acetate [140-11 ], and iudole [120-72-9] (16). 

The level of natural versus man-made emissions to the environment are of a similar magnitude. SoH erosion is the major contributor of natural emissions with zinc mining, zinc production facHities, iron and steel production, corrosion of galvanized stmctures, coal and fuel combustion, waste disposal and incineration, and the use of zinc fertilizers and pesticides being the principal anthropogenic contributors. 

Tautomer K is a resonance-stabilized structure as shown however, tautomer E has a principal resonance contributor which is an aromatic species. The need to separate charges decreases the stability somewhat, but the aromatic system is a large stabilizing feature. Thus E is of much lower energy than K and the equilibrium between K and E is shifted to E. 

Cha.ra.cter Impa.ct Items. The character impact item is a chemical or blend of chemicals that provide the principal portion of a flavor s sensory identity, ie, when tasted and/or smelled, the item is reminiscent of the named character, eg, vanillin is the character impact item for vanilla flavors (Table 6). A character item for one flavor can contribute to another flavor in a different way, for example, ethyl oenanthate is a character item for the grape flavor of the Vinus vinifera type and is a contributor to the flavor of the concord grape, ie, the labmska-type grape. 

In valence bond terms the mesomers indicated by (1—7) reflect the ground-state position of thiophene. Mesomer (1) is the principal contributor to the ring stmcture (2) and (3) are significant (4—7) contribute in a minor way to the stmcture. 

Recent estimates indicate that the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has increased by a third since the beginning of the industrial age, and that it contributes significantly to global warming.
