Principal elements in developing a workplace health and safety plan 

An organization s occupational health and safety policy should be a clear statement of principles which serve as guides to action. Senior management must be totalfy committed to ensuring that the policy is carried out with no exceptions. Health and safety pohcy must be, and be seen to be, on a par with all other oiganizational policies. 

As with health and safety plans, no one policy is suitable for all oiganizations. The pohcy statement can be brief, but it should mention

All health and safety activities are based on specific individual responsibilities, most of which can be found in the pertinent legislation. It is somewhat surprising, but unfortunately true, that all these responsibilities are not well known in the average workplace. This situation can be improved by including details of specific responsibihties in the safety plan.
