Primary alkyl coupling reactions with alkenyl halides

Transition metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions between vinyl organometallic compounds and unactivated alkyl halides that can be usually performed with palladium, nickel and cobalt are of particular synthetic interest [37-39]. Recently, the groups of Cahiez [48] and Cossy [49] concurrently reported the first iron-catalyzed reaction of alkenyl Grignard compounds with primary and secondary alkyl halides (X=Br, I) (Scheme 5.15). The Corey—Posner, Whitesides—House reaction involves the coupling of a hthium dialkyl-cuprate (called a Gilman reagent) with an alkyl, alkenyl, or aryl halide. The alkyl group of the lithium dialkylcuprate reagent may be primary, secondary, or tertiary. However, the halide with which the Gilman reagent couples must be a primary or cychc secondary alkyl halide if it is not alkenyl or aryl. 

Trialkylboranes, including 9-alkyl-9-BBN, underwent cross-coupling with 1-alkenyl or aryl halides or triflates.750,751 The reaction was limitedly used for primary alkylboranes thus, hydroboration of terminal alkenes with 9-BBN was the most convenient to furnish the desired boron reagents in the presence of a base and PdCl2(dppf)750,751 or PdCl2(dppf)/2Ph3As (Equation (200)).752...
