The Wisconsin bill introduces an interesting concept called the Preventive Action Limit (PAL). Conceptually, this can be envisioned as some major portion of the enforcement standard which could trigger investigations into sources for groundwater contamination, i.e., improper disposal, point sources, etc. In practice it is an additional safety factor since the state regulatory response is nearly the same whether a standard or PAL is exceeded. [Pg.441]

As is the case with OOS and OOT an effective recall prevention program must establish alert and action limits for the various quality markers results, in such a way that the actions taken—either withholding product or reprocessing it—are timely and part of a continuous improvement effort. [Pg.534]

Water system qualification and requalification data, along with periodic water testing, will reveal any critical excursions and alert QA to the need to withhold product from the market. Establishing alert and action limits for this crucial raw material, particularly since it is used pervasively, can go a long way in supporting QA in recall prevention. [Pg.538]

Any reading about polyphenols in the medical journals inevitably leads us back to the health of the endothelium and the role of nitric oxide (NO). Truly, that s where the action is, with good reason, since NO has vital abilities to help arterial dilation, prevent inflammation, limit the formation of blood clots, and, in general, promote arterial health. In that special AJCN supplement, one of the most prominently discussed sources of polyphenols was GSE. That s because GSE has one of the highest concentrations of those potent substances. Just a little bit goes a long way. [Pg.218]

Another view explores the limits of the risk assessment-based approach to decision-making and what a precautionary paradigm might look like. The precautionary principle calls for preventive actions when there is reasonable scientific evidence of harm, although the nature and magnitude of that harm may not be fully understood scientifically. While a highly contentious term, proponents of the precautionary approach see this as a means to make better, more health protective decisions in the face of highly uncertain and complex risks. [Pg.29]
