Relapse prevention, as mentioned, is compatible with a variety of treatment models. For example, many Minnesota-model facilities have incorporated aspects of cognitive behavioral relapse prevention into their treatment and aftercare programs. There have been efforts to combine the relapse prevention model with disease-model instructions to maintain abstinence after treatment is completed. Minnesota-model relapse prevention is generally begun late in treatment and then continued into aftercare. Traditionally, least-squares methods have been used to refine protein crystal structures. In this method, a set of simultaneous equations is set up whose solutions correspond to a minimum of the R factor with respect to each of the atomic coordinates. Least-squares refinement requires an N x N matrix to be inverted, where N is the number of parameters. It is usually necessary to examine an evolving model visually every few cycles of the refinement to check that the structure looks reasonable. During visual examination it may be necessary to alter a model to give a better fit to the electron density and prevent the refinement falling into an incorrect local minimum. X-ray refinement is time consuming, requires substantial human involvement and is a skill which usually takes several years to acquire. [Pg.501]

Preventive Measures. The intake uptake biokinetic model (lUBK) projects the impact of lead in the environment on blood lead. This model assumes conservatively high levels of intake and cannot account for chemical speciation, thus over-predictions of blood lead levels often occur. Nonetheless, because of the allegations of the impact of blood lead and neurobehavioral development, blood lead levels in children are being reduced adrninistratively to below 10 //g/dL.
