In recent years, the rapid development of low-budget 3D-capablc graphics cards makes it possible to visualize molecular models with standard PC systems. Some molecular modeling software, which was once available only for workstations, is now also offered for PCs [198]. [Pg.131]

SONNIA can be employed for the classification and clustering of objects, the projection of data from high-dimensional spaces into two-dimensional planes, the perception of similarities, the modeling and prediction of complex relationships, and the subsequent visualization of the underlying data such as chemical structures or reactions which greatly facilitates the investigation of chemical data. [Pg.461]

The front end is what you see and what you interact with. It provides a user interface to molecular modeling and provides the visualization of molecules and the results of computations. The front end can be thought of as the molecular modeling component of HyperChem. [Pg.155]

Comparison of Models Only scattered and inconclusive results have been obtained by calculation of the relative performances of the different models as converiers. Both the RTD and the dispersion coefficient require tracer tests for their accurate determination, so neither method can be said to be easier to apply The exception is when one of the cited correlations of Peclet numbers in terms of other groups can be used, although they are rough. The tanks-in-series model, however, provides a mechanism that is readily visualized and is therefore popular. [Pg.2089]

All three experimental approaches are presented in this chapter visualization of airflow and contaminant dispersion (Section 12.2), measurement techniques including laser-based-techniques (Section 12.3), and scale model experiments (Section 12.4). [Pg.1108]

No written formula is quite as effective as a molecular model to help us visualize molecular shape. Since chemists find that the shape of a molecule strongly influences its chemical behavior, pictures and models of molecules are important aids. A variety of types of models are... [Pg.31]

Molecular modeling itself can be simply described as the computer-assisted calculation, modulation, and visualization of realistic 3D-molecular structures and their physical-chemical properties using force fields/ molecular mechanics. [Pg.777]

So far, some researchers have analyzed particle fluidization behaviors in a RFB, however, they have not well studied yet, since particle fluidization behaviors are very complicated. In this study, fundamental particle fluidization behaviors of Geldart s group B particle in a RFB were numerically analyzed by using a Discrete Element Method (DEM)- Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) coupling model [3]. First of all, visualization of particle fluidization behaviors in a RFB was conducted. Relationship between bed pressure drop and gas velocity was also investigated by the numerical simulation. In addition, fluctuations of bed pressure drop and particle mixing behaviors of radial direction were numerically analyzed. [Pg.505]

The probe molecules of greatest historical interest in catalysis are the Hammett indicators [13]. The difficulty of making reliable visual or spectrophotometric observations of the state of protonation of these species on solids is well known. We have recently carried out the first NMR studies of Hanunett indicators on solid acids [ 14]. This was also the occasion of the first detailed collaboration between the authors of this article, and theoretical methods proved to strongly compliment the NMR experiments. The Hanunett story is told after first reviewing the application of theoretical chemistry to such problems. Central to the application of any physical method in chemistry is the process of modeling the relationship between the observables and molecular structure. However often one does this, it is rarely an exact process. One can rationalize almost any trend in isotropic chemical shift as a function of some variation in molecular structure - after the fact, but the quantitative prediction of such trends in advance defies intuition in most nontrivial cases. Even though the NMR spectrum is a function... [Pg.575]

In recent years there has been much activity to devise methods for multivariate calibration that take non-linearities into account. Artificial neural networks (Chapter 44) are well suited for modelling non-linear behaviour and they have been applied with success in the field of multivariate calibration [47,48]. A drawback of neural net models is that interpretation and visualization of the model is difficult. Several non-linear variants of PCR and PLS regression have been proposed. Conceptually, the simplest approach towards introducing non-linearity in the regression model is to augment the set of predictor variables (jt, X2, ) with their respective squared terms (xf,. ..) and, optionally, their possible cross-product... [Pg.378]

Our very first experiments with the reactor depicted in Figure 5.4.1 were carried out with a 15% Pt-Y-Al203 single cylindrical catalyst pellet [10-12], The acquisition time of 2D images of an axial slice at that time was about 260 s. Despite this, the first direct MRI visualization of the operation of a model gas-liquid-solid reactor has revealed the existence of large gradients of the liquid phase content within the catalyst pellet upon imbibition of liquid a-methylstyrene (AMS) under conditions... [Pg.574]
