Pressure cure

Finishing and Fabrication. Since laminates are normally pressure cured in flat-bed presses and pHes overextend the plates, laminates have rough or uneven edges when removed from the press. These edges are sawed off and the back of the laminate is often sanded to improve the strength of subsequent bonding to various substrates. 

Preparation of paint, its viscosity, solvent, thickness of one coat, air pressure, curing temperature and time of curing will remain the same as for the primer (Table A13.4). 

The advanced applications for nitrocellulose plastisol propellants require that they be integrally bonded to the motor case. Successful case bonding for the multiyear storage life of a rocket calls for special adhesives and liners which are completely compatible with these highly plasticized propellants. Best results have been obtained with a combination of an impervious rubber liner and a crosslinked adhesive system with a limited affinity for the plasticizers used in the propellants. Examples of effective liners are silica-filled butyl rubber and chlorinated synthetic rubber. Epoxy polyamides, isocyanate-crosslinked cellulose esters, and combinations of crosslinked phenol-formaldehyde and polyvinyl formal varnishes have proved to be effective adhesives between propellant and impervious liners. Depending on the resin preparation, the material in or around a mold can be cured with or without heat, and commonly without pressure. Curing needs include room temperature conditions, heat sources, vacuum bags, pressure bags, autoclaves, etc. An alternative is to use preimpregnated, B-stage TS polyester or sheet molding compound (SMC), but in this case heat is applied with low pressure via a impermeable sheet over the material.
